I think this is a pretty gross exaggeration. It is not "so true". But I can see and appreciate the sentiment.

I dont know a lot of the things mentions are based off senerios that have happend based off the zero torrerance rule for example I went to garrett middle school right when all the zero tolerance stuff was first coming out and a girl was expelled from school permanently for bringing a "weapon" to school what was this weapon you ask.... I kid you not a twitie bird key chain.....it was considered a weapon because the chain was longer then 5"....that is BS and you probably can still find it on the internet back then it made national headlines

Thats very interesting but you have to remember. High school students are vastly different from their 1950s counterpart.

You can't even go to school with a peanut butter sandwich anymore! I wouldn't have survived without peanut butter sandwiches when I was in school!

People go around talking about how we should ensure there is 'freedom and democracy' for all, and yet, as a society we are more restricted now than we have ever been...

My TRUE stories between me and my X Boss(Tim)

Scenario 1
Tim's Days:Used to be a smoking lounge at the highschool (Tim Smoked in the lounge back then)
Geoff's DaysSmoking totally banned on school grounds during session (i think)
(This doesn't bother me, I don't smoke lol) Just interesting that school actually had a lounge for it.

Scenario 2
Tim's Days:Brings a plastic fake gun that looks fake, not a replica. its all good
Geoff's DaysBring a Lego Gun to school, (smaller than an inch) suspended and what not. (happened to me in elementary school)

Scenario 3 Like you said, Stick to the behind
Tim's Days: Get a woopin
Geoff's Days Get a Pill (almost happened to my boss's daughter)

Scenario 4
Tim's Days: Punishment usually fits the crime, teachers used to be able to handle problems until laws changed and re-enforced. (not teachers fault all the time)
Geoff's Days Little overboard these days, plus call the parents every other day.

There is a ton more, but these are some I can add

Granted the 2011 scene is exagerated up there, it carries much truth and if you look at the energy spent drilling into "what they did" it's senseless.

Look back, could you threaten your parents in the 50's telling them "I'm gonna call Child Services Division" (CSD) and have you arrested if you take my "what ever away"? Not so much. You were punished and you learned something from it. Now you can't touch your own child.

Obviously those are extreme cases on both sides but in general teens and many young adults don't see the value in respecting one another. It was lost with cr@p like McDonald's disposable toys. If you're given too much free stuff and never had to earn it, it seldom carries value worthy of respecting it. Sadly people fall into this bucket too as many children and teens see relationships as disposable and treat one another just like that cr@ap toy they throw in your Happy Meal. DISPOSABLE! The value system has been degraded. Granted no one thing is at fault but with broken homes, working parents, loss of family units, stressful jobs, a prescription for everything vs addressing the real problem, marketing ploys to drag parents in, etc.. All small factors which can over-time if not managed wear down the value system when there are insufficient Good Examples of how to be respectful. I suppose it's also true that penalties should match the crime and often times they don't.

/end rant. . .

Lest we forget that its not the schools job to discipline a child. To a degree, they have to keep order to do their job but ultimately every parent sees there kid as :innocent: but in reality they are like this:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBlMDXdHUrM]Louis CK Hitting Kids - YouTube[/ame]

I couldnt be a teacher/professor because I dont want to deal with someone elses failed parenting experiment. lol
