Need some advice

I'm riding to France on Wednesday and I've been told I should tape up between 7oc and 9oc on my dipped headlamp. I've also heard that modern UK bikes don't dip to the left so it's not needed. Anyone know which is true?

I've got a 08 plate FZ6 Fazer S2 - Pics here if you fancy a ganders.
