Hey there I just purchased a 2006 fz6. It has 11000 miles on it and is straight stock. My first question is what kind of upgrades should I make. I know I'm getting a new exhaust, and air filter. Any suggestions on what exhaust or air filter to pick up. I want an exhaust that sounds great and won't need a power commander or anything for it to run smoothly. Any other tips or any comments I'm open to. Thank you.

First off welcome to the forum!!! As far as tips and upgrades go if this is your 1st bike then I would recommend before spending a dime on the bike to take the basic rider course, and buy some good riding gear, ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time) if you don't want to wear full gear at least get a good riding jacket, try not to wear shorts and get some decent over the ankle boots.

As far as exhaust goes, that's up to you and what look you want and how much you want to spend. For the the air filter i would recommend the K&N, mainly because it's washable and reusable. But if you do install a exhaust and replace the air filter you really would need a efi tuner like the power commander because your bike will be running fairly lean, there really is no way around running lean if you put a exhaust and air filter on.

Some other things that are fairly popular is replacing the stock handle bars with the FZ1 bars. They level all the way across with bends at the end, and they are a perfect replacement for the stock ones. They will get rid of that awkward bend that the stock ones put on your wrist as well as look better too. I would also look into some frame sliders as well. If you do want to get some frame sliders I would stay away from the "extended" or longer sliders because in a fall they can put more stress on the frame and there has been a few which cracked and broke the frame as well.

I agree with Chevy. Been riding over 26 years with only one major wreck. Since then it's ATGATT. Just got my FZ in June and started mods in three days. The only limit to what you can do is you. Check the forum for as many ideas as you can think of.

Welcome to the forum, and where in TN are you?

you could also look into the airbox mod, and a windscreen can be a good investment too. also since you just bought the bike (and i dont trust anyone) a full fluid change might be beneficial. +1 for K&N, i'm a big fan of 2Bros and they have their own Fuel processor (juice box) even though mine shall remain stock for a while. also if it hasn't been done i would recommend Motogiro's Headlight Mod, because every right turn at night is a blind turn without it.

:welcome:
I modded mine right after I got it:
  • FZ1 handlebar swap for massively improved ergos
  • BD43's dual headlight mod for safety
