Hey guys, Im new to the forums and I have been in the market for a FZ6 for some time now and I'm finally thinking about buying one for next spring/summer (i live in michigan i can only ride half the year :( )

I was recently looking at some local classifieds and found a FZ6 only a few minutes from my house. Its a 2005 with 12k miles on it. Dosent appear to have any scratches on it at all and it looks to be all stock. Is it a good deal for $4,600??

Hey man, welcome.

Looks to be a good bike but with the amount of miles it a bit high and it is a first gen, nothing wrong with that however. Maybe $3800 to $4200?

Well, its blue booked around 4,800 in perfect condition. So, if the seller took care of the bike the way that pretty much everybody on the forum does (fluid changes on time, chain maintenance, not wheeling at every stop-light) then it sounds like a pretty good deal. For a bike that was well taken care of, 12K is not many mile at all. For overkill, you could always get the VIN# and for around $30-40, I think, look of the history of the bike online.

I bought my stock 06 with 1012 miles in Feb for $4k, guy was asking $4500. I'd say with the amount of miles on it you should go for less than $4k, but definitely nothing too much over that.

Normally I would say you have to factor in where you live because bike prices can be drastically different but for you I say consider the time of year. You should probably be able to talk him down going into fall/winter.

Remember that Blue Book and supply and demand are two very different things. Yes 12K is a low mileage bike, and it does look well taken care of, but $4,600 is too high for a bike that is five model years old and one generation behind.

$4200 US? - No
$4200 CAN? - Maybe

A new FZ6 S2 would cost $6999 CAN plus freight, tires, service, tax.......$8000 CAN.

Those beavers work too hard for their money, which is easily taken away from them.

$4200 CAN is nearly half the price of a new FZ6 in Canada. 12,000 KM is fine IF THE OWNER CAN PROVE THEY PERFORMED THE SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. Trust me, you DON'T want to perform the 12,000 KM maintenance schedule on your FZ6.

Are the tires still stock???
Are the brakes still stock???
Cooling system been flushed???
How about the battery???

All these things have either been done, or will need to be done really soon...

...oh! I got one...this gets EVERYBODY. Throttle/clutch cables. They are NEVER lubed or adjusted EVER. Nobody does it.

If none of these things are done, you must consider how much it'll cost you to do it yourself, which will be really soon.

If however, the owner worshipped the maintenance schedule and checked EVERYTHING down to tire pressure, $4200 CAN is a DAMN GOOD DEAL!!!

...

...
OH WAIT!!! <Takes out a magnifying glass>
<Do you have any idea how hard this is to do? When I'm totally on the other side of the galaxy??>

You live in the US! Detroit...right? GOD! You're SOO CLOSE to the Canadian border!!

In that case...$4200 US for an '05 FZ6 is NOT A GOOD DEAL. You can get a BRAND NEW ONE for $6000 US!!! Look again...

[There was a guy on this forum, who lived in the US, who bought an FZ6 S2 that had only 5000KM on it...for $3600 US!!!

Nothing over $4k unless it has a documented maintenance book with receipts, new rubber, front and rear, no noticeable wear on the sprockets. Check to see if the owner did the two recalls as well, one being the TPS and the other being the front sprocket retaining washer.

Think about this, if you have to buy new rubber and have that installed, front and rear, oil, filter, 12K tuneup, Plugs (overdue?) and air filter, then you've just covered at LEAST the cost of a 2007 holdover if not a new 2008 which will soon be a "holdover" itself.

I will just say that I bought my 05 with 1800 miles an FE, and shaved seat for $4899 in January of 07. I bought the YES plan too for $399. Great deal? yes, the dealer still gives us discounts on almost everything we buy there.. we have spent an additional $3,500 in aftermarket (for the ZZR too) and gear.

I guess I can brag too; I bought a brand new '07 FZ6 and walked out the door with it for $6100. In other words, there are better deals than what you saw.

Factoring in the time of year and not much in the way of facts, I'd still say they're asking a little high - who knows what he'd sell it for though. I bought my 04 about this time of year (Oct) two years ago for $4k with 3750 miles - a problem is I didn't find many used ones around (it's not like a ninja500 where they're everywhere or anything) when I was looking so if you pass on it you might be a while before a better value that's close to you.
