Fram Extra Guard
Years ago Fram was a quality filter manufacturer. Now their standard filter (the radioactive-orange cans) is one of the worst out there. It features cardboard end caps for the filter element that are glued in place. The rubber anti-drainback valve seals against the cardboard and frequently leaks, causing dirty oil to drain back into the pan. The bypass valves are plastic and are sometimes not molded correctly, which allows them to leak all the time. The stamped-metal threaded end is weakly constructed and it has smaller and fewer oil inlet holes, which may restrict flow. I had one of these filters fail in my previous car. The filter element collapsed and bits of filter and glue were circulating through my system. The oil passage to the head became blocked and the head got so hot from oil starvation that it actually melted the vacuum lines connected to it as well as the wires near it.

I highly highly recomend the purolator pure one filter PL14610 for less than 6 dollars it is one of the finest available.

Which filters have you used? Is there room for the 3.25" long filters or does the FZ6 need the shorter 2.5" long filter? Thanks.

As indicated before I think that the 07+ model uses different filters than the 2004-06 model. Anyone knows the equivalents for 2004-06 model?

Are you sure? The engine block has not changed at all.
The same filter fits the R6S as well if I remember correctly.

I am not sure at all. But I am sure that I read this somewhere before + someone else mentioned it in this thread too. That's all I know about the issue

EDIT: Just for reference, the K&N filter I used on my 06 last time is model 303. What model of K&N do you use on 07+?

I am now looking into new filters after reading some stuff on the net. A friend imports Champion stuff, so I need to find the model that fits my bike. If I find it out, I'll post it here.

Hey, I was thinking about ordering some of the Purolator Pure One PL14610 oil filters from Amazon.com but how can I make sure that they will fit? I don't see anything that would get in it's way... This will be my first oil change so I want to be aware of any possible issues that I could run into before attempting it.

The majority of oil filters on the original list posted are the part numbers for automotive filters that will also fit on alot of bikes. The K&N 204 being one of them. The K&N 303 is listed on the K&N website as being the bike specific filter for a FZ6.

That's what I use. Let us know the color of the filters. Purolator switched to yellow recently. I got mine from Pep Boys... still blue on the shelf.

So you are going to need to add more oil to the engine to make up for the added volume of the longer filter?
