Just wanted to post that after scouring the forums for the proper way to tension the chain, I found out that I had been improperly tensioning my chain since I bought the bike in April.

I thought that the noise (whine) coming from the bike when I eased off the throttle with the engine still in gear (any gear) was NORMAL. There is now no whine from the chain (which I thought was engine noise before), and when I engage the clutch the bike is literally silent (with stock exhaust)!

I used the push up / pull down method and set the slack to just over 2". It has made the bike THAT MUCH MORE enjoyable to ride. I just hope that the 10,000+kms I've put on the tight chain since April hasn't destroyed it since I have about 3,500kms to go to get home!
