Heard of him?
This resulted in the odd spectacle of international riders The timing screens lit up as he recorded the fastest times of the day lining up to follow him round the 4.2km Kyalami circuit in the first qualifying session on Friday afternoon in the hope of learning the Bryanston teenager's fast lines.
Then Quarmby lit up the track again, posting times that would have put him on the front row of the grid. With seven minutes to go, running on qualifying tyres, he went out to try for provisional pole.
The timing screens lit up as he recorded the fastest times of the day through sector after sector. At Turn 9, three-quarters of the way around, Quarmby was 0.2sec quicker than eventual pole starter - and race winner - Laverty.
Then disaster struck. He out-braked Michele Pirro's Honda into the slow WesBank corner; the two collided and both went down. Quarmby's bike sustained only minor damage but as he picked it up he felt an excruciating pain in his left leg.
He was unable to continue and, with all the riders now on qualifying tyres, he was relegated to a still-respectable eighth place - on race rubber!
He spent the rest of the weekend in a wheelchair but ended it on a high note when his racing leathers came back from the medics signed by every World SuperSport rider!

The next Rossi? Shame he's stuck on a Honda though :Flip:
