Sad day with a new bike.

After following some advice from other members I went with the FZ-6 that was used but in showroom condition. I have to admit I didn't think it thrue to much but I wanted to remove the stock sticker from above the gas cap. Needless to say that wasnt such a good idea and now im left with some scraped clear coat where the rectangular stick was and a half inch gash down to metal two inches above and to the side of the cap right alone the first curve. No amount of waxing or buffing will get that out. Any ideas on what to do? Repaint is about 700 so out of the ballpark now. Decals? Covers? Protectors? added custom paint? or just leave it alone and enjoy the ride. Thanks and Gig Em'
 
Beat me to it. I was going to recommend a tank bag as well. You'll need the storage anyway so it might as well serve a dual purpose. And :welcome: as earlier mentioned.

I got to ask, WTF did you use to 'remove' the sticker in the first place? A cheese grater?

A hair dryer/heat gun and a credit card works magic on decals. Use some mineral spirits, rubbing alcohol or WD40 to clean up any sticker residue left behind.

I also found and use these AWESOME plactic razor blades! They never mark or scrape surfaces! (got them at Lee Valley Tools)

Ok, those are cool as ****! I work in a sign shop and those things could come in VERY handy when trying to do adjustments on sign faces. Thanks for the heads-up, Dave! :thumbup:
 
black stomp grips? if you position them to the inside it might cover some of the area.

besides, everyone should have stomp grips. makes a big difference to how you can contorl the bike.

or paint the thing yourself. it's really not hard.
 
The price of $700 was just a guess from the guy who painted and now mirror glazes my truck. A local bike shop offered 100+ supply cost if I took the tank off and brought it to him. Seemed a little cheap to me any thoughts?

I started using just scraping it with my nail and loosing it with rubbing alchol but it ended in using a plain razor blade... BAD DECISION!

I bet you could get some touch up paint and fix it, put on a little clear, let it dry then buff it out with a good buffer like a griots garage 6" random orbital or a 3" random orbital, ultimate compound and a wool pad. If you were close to me i would do it for you.
