Stupid track riding! (says my wallet!)

No offense, but it's VERY difficult to go back to 250 after getting used to a liter bike! IF I ever get a dedicated track day bike, I may go with SV650.. it's a great cheap choice.

I raced an SV for several years. Great choice, tons of parts out there, and yep, you can pick'em up on the cheap!

Definitely check out Tony's Track Days (my org of preference) and consider a few days at New York Safety Track. NJMP is fun and super fast, but NYST is technical and and has a ton of elevation change that makes it such a blast. And it's a much nicer drive. I'm not saying do one or the other, i'm saying do both and more!
:Im With Stupid: Tony's is great. I intend to do a couple days at NYST next year.

NJMP (Thunderbolt). ... for now
Was there last weekend... check to see if my skidmarks are still in turn 3! :p

Things you actually NEED to do a track day. All that other stuff is just nice to have. You can bum rides, borrow stands, etc.

IF you go through a set of tires a weekend then you must be going at a hell of a clip. Like top 10 expert racer clip.

For most people, especially those just starting, my above list is all you need. People get overwhelmed and misguided when they see these ultra long lists. You can definitely spend a ton of money getting into track days, or you can do it on a budget. Just depends on what you want to do with the track days.

Sure it's nice to have a dedicated bike, toy hauler, warmers, new slicks every day, but you don't NEED those to get out there and learn.

Bottom line: JUST DO IT!

You don't even need that much. You can rent or borrow leathers or even wear an Aerostitch or equivalent. And, you can buy gas at the track.

But, it is an addiction and you will soon find yourself caught up. One of the first things will be a lap timer. How else do you know for sure you're improving? Only thru lap times.

Yep, you can ride your bike to the track and you can get an entire season out of a set of tires. Though good tires, is cheap insurance.

For our track day, we do a novice class that includes classroom and instruction. It's all about safety. You will learn so much that first time, you will be amazed at how much your street riding is improved!

Agreed, bottom line - just do it!!

One of the RiderCoaches I work with is also a coach for Team Pro-Motion. Haven't talked to him about any kind of hook-up yet, but I plan to before next season. They go to NYST too.. I definitely want to check it out.
