-5 C and it's been snowing for two days.

One would think that since this kind of weather usually lasts for at least 1/3 of the year, people know how to drive in it. But no. Yet again this morning the traffic was, well how would I say it, SLOW!

70 and sunny today. Tomorrow 72 and partly cloudy. I am heading home tonight to get back on the bike tomorrow and get some miles in before classes start on Wednesday.

I found this picture from the pages of Finnish road administration. Taken in 11.32 am today in Espoo (maybe 10 km from Helsinki downtown). Not so snowy as I would have guessed. (That one car sideways on the left looks kinda hilarious. And yes, it's supposed to go that way.)

Just been out for a short ride (20 miles or so) to meet with the wife. It was absolutely chucking it down. Apart from the misting/rained on visor/glasses situation it was great fun. When I parked up in town I couldn't believe how much salt and crap had attached itself to my bike though. Had to give it a jetwash at the garage near my house. Must have looked a right nutter jetwashing a bike in the pouring rain!!!!

Was snowing here in ireland last week, rain followed after a few hours so now we have nice sheets of ice on all footpaths and roads. At the moment the sun is shining, skys are almost clear and the temperature stands at: 30 to 40 F (1 to 6 C)

My wife, son, and I went for a ride on the country roads last Saturday. It was really nice. The temp was 75 F and was very pleasant. It was a bit windy but we have found that a strong wind just makes the ride more interesting. At one point we stopped at an old closed gas station to take a break when just across the road a large flame shot up in the long grass (no we didn't start it). With the wind as strong as it was it spread quickly. We notified the fire department and quickly took off. The fire was headed where we wanted to go. We managed to outrun the fire but not the smoke, so we coughed for a while until we could get far enough down wind. We still had a lot of fun riding. We rode about 150 miles that day!

BTW, Bren, We get snow and ice in this part of Texas so seldom that if we get more than an inch on the ground the entire Dallas/Fort Worth area pretty much shuts down. Most people here don't know how to drive in snow and ice, and other than the airport there are not snow removal vehicles. Oh, we will sand the overpasses some but that just ends up getting everyones car dirty as they lose control and slide off the road! The good thing is that when we get freezing precipitation it is usually gone within two or three days. I remember one time that we had snow on the ground three days after it had gotten up to 80 F. The snow was gone by the next day.
