Got thru my "mid-life" crisis...moving on to my "near-death" crisis....owned a Harley/Hnda XR250 for years...but always thought the crouch rockets where the "bomb"...came across a cherry '05 Yamaha FZ6ST with 44k...the guy was "up in age" (like me)...that owned it...an used it to ride 50 hwy miles daily...to and from work...only things he did was change the oil/air filter/spark plugs...I like to do preventive maintainace on my stuff....I know to replace ovious parts...thermostat/breaklines/mastercyclinders/sprockets/chain/ect..
but was wondering about stuff like reed valves/stator/starter brushes/fuel pump/ect...being it has that high of milage

PS....lov that bike...it's a "work-of-art"...compairing it to my Harley....is like comparing a wooden coocooclck to a Rolex...but I love them all....would like to own one of every kind out there

reed valves are only in 2 strokes from what i know
stator should be fine, it's not really a consumable

main things i'd probably check are the bearings (wheels, head, swingarm etc). Water pump could possibly be an issue, but if it works then leave it. It might be worth changing the coolant though.

the other thing you might want to check is the valve clearances if they haven't been done

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new bike, as far as maintainance goes these bikes are pretty rock solid and you pretty much covered everything normal to look for, the only other thing that I can think of would be the cam chain tensioner, they aren't the best on these bikes. But if it's not giving you problems I wouldn't worry about it right now just something to keep in mind

Yea, like others said above, I would change out the coolant. Might be a good idea to empty the system, fill with distilled water, run the bike around, and empty again. Repeat until the fluid you are emptying comes out clear or at least close to clear. Then refill with your normal 50/50 mix.

well...I'm pretty sure that the reed valves on the head of the Yamaha 4 strok engine don't have the same functin as the reed valves on the 2 strok...but the 4 strok does have them....according to Bike Bandit OEM parts diagram...cyclinder head...#18 Reed valve Assy...Part #1217219 $46.24...but when I check my shop manual....it doesn't mention reed valves...????

I'm pretty sure the "reed valve assembly" is part of the Air Injection System, which is a smog system that puts air into the exhaust stream to burn unburnt fuel.

I know you mentioned you're up on it, but I'd be one for flushing the brake fluids ASAP. . . Reeds on this are for emissions only. I wouldn't worry over them. If it starts to backfire - one could have broken. Beyond that many block off the whole Air Injection System.

Brakes and fork oil. Invert the forks and let the sludge ooooooze out. Might throw in some after market springs if the nose dive is unfavorable. . . If the bike shows lots of rust or corrosion, you might read up on Head set bearings.

Congrats on the new bike and welcome to the forum! If you have the owners manual just follow the recommended service intervals. If you need assistance there's plenty of info on this site and a couple of others on what to change, what to inspect and what to watch out for. There's plenty of folks here with twice the mileage you have, even more, so I wouldn't worry too much about it as these bikes are fairly bullet proof. Things do fail over time, yes, so read up on the forum and get to know your bike.
