Manual Cam Chain Tensioners?

That would fit a FZ6? I just got my bike back from the dealership, after they replaced my crankshaft position sensor. My 3rd one. Last one only lasted 4k miles.

It's fixed but my engine is still rattling off that noise that is associated with the cam chain. The tensioner is only 4k miles old and the chain too. I let the service people listen to my engine, and they heard how bad it sounds.

Did they give any reason why the chain/tensioner are so loose already? If it had a new chain and tensioner, it should last quite awhile. ??

Faulty parts from Yamaha? I'd be checking on what the warranty is on genuine Yamaha parts they installed (I'm assuming), perhaps some complaining to Yamaha and get it fixed correctly as that's what you paid for...


BTW, swapping out that sensor isn't difficult, the hardest part is breaking the hold down bolts loose as their usually loctited in (once the cover is off). A hand impact tool usually pops them loose without problem..

What about that black plastic strip inside, that the tensioner pushes on, and the chain runs against?

IF you've had issues, it may be a lot more worn than it should be ... that would be very bad.

Kenny why did the Crank Position Sensor (CPS) fail? Was it the same reason as the last time? The last time the cam chain actually sliced through the CPS. Is this what happened?. If so it will cut through it very shortly. If this is the case it is probably more than just the Cam Chain Tensioner (CCT) If the CCT was new why would it fail so soon? I would suspect other worn parts like the cam chain guides.

Could they have made that bolt longer???/ WTF? Perhaps its to compensate for when you stretch the daylight out of the chain (and just keep going!!! lol)??? I saw that one installed on an R1, it had 88% of the threads exposed.

It sounds like you have some other issues other than CCT, but I installed an APE manual tensioner that'll fit an R6(03-05) or FZ6.

Is your idle dead set or does it fluctuate or sound lumpy?

If the chain and tensioner was replaced, the front guide and the guide between the tensioner and chain could very well be worn out (not allowing the stock tensioner to work as designed)..

The sprockets themselves on the cams and crank could also (not as likely) be worn allowing extra play in the chain...

As noted above, IMHO, I'd be back at the dealership, they should have checked/mentioned/fixed, whatever else is worn... Putting on a manual adjuster may take care of the problem but your just masking whats already worn out and will continue to wear... You really don't want that chain letting loose as you will have a major engine failure....
