What the hell is right. Seriously, the way that video looked, the trooper literally rammed the guy for no reason. I couldn't tell if the bike had hit his breaks or not.

OMG! Looks like the trooper either didn't see the bike or planned to hit him. He wasn't running lights and sirens and going pretty fast when he hit him. hmmm... Love to hear more info on this. Very strange indeed. Thanks lytehouse!

The Trooper was obviously distracted or not paying attention. It was not that late at night, so there are definitely some questions that need to be answered. I find it disturbing how he takes so long to come to a stop and how fast he backs up. I understand you do not want the riders to be hit by a car, but they should not be run over by the Trooper either. Thank God they survived as well as they have and that we have the dash cam footage. 
This is a classic example of a driver or rider overriding their headlights. Going faster than what they can actually see. One of the dangers when nightfall occurs.

I'm less surprised by this than I should be. Pretty often you'll see troopers on their laptops and phones while they drive, part of that is required for the job (looking up plates, etc) but they have to do a better job managing their distractions and driving. Cops will be the first to tell you not to text and drive and how dangerous distracted driving is, but (not trying to paint with a wide brush) I've seen many cops who don't follow the rules that they enforce. This will hopefully serve as a wake up call.
I don't know, Kenny.. the bike is well lit for a loooong time before the trooper rear-ends it. Heck, if trooper's lights were completely off the bike would still be well visible.
There is no doubt in my mind that he was distracted. He had to be looking anywhere else, but the road.
Are we sure he was even E'fffn conscious before/after impact? As said, it appears he applied minimal braking effort as if coasting to a stop. Yes, Later - action was taken.
And what if they were back there? Was it really the best choice to back up like that OR maybe spin the car about and look!!! I hope neither of them were ran over in reverse!

That's another thought that crossed my mind.. if he had a medical issue, but if it was a coronary, I doubt he'd be backing up at all.

Hmm, figures. "It's still under investigation" pfft. Bull****, guy mows two people down and gets a paid vacation and probably won't loose his job. In my opinion being an officer of the law requires you to be above reproach, and what I mean by that is follow the damn laws you serve to everyone else, lets name the many things that could have happened here.
1: fell asleep: fatigued driving is worse that drunk driving and is against th law.
2: on his cell phone, texting, are against the law, why on earth would he need to do anything on his laptop? I didn't see him tailing anyone looking at plates.
2: medical disorder: this is very broad, but from my experience is that it's not something that "just happeneds".nover night,
We had an old couple told not to drive b their doctor, 10 minutes later hit a car head on, killing a 6-7 yr old girl.
Take his job before he kills someone else. At least normal cars don't have a giant cattle basher on the front of them.

LOL...we officially have two RC's who disagree.
The video only shows a second before it approaches the bike, so yes the bike is visible. The reason why I said over riding is because the rate the trooper came upon the moving motorcyclist, way too fast. Yes, it's a cruiser so we can assume it could be going slower than faster. Any way to confirm how fast the trooper was moving?

I saw another link that showed a slightly longer portion before hand and there is a good 2-3 seconds of wondering if the guy is going to slow down. In the link sent by ERCI there is 3.5 seconds before impact. Also the headlights are clearly visible reflecting off the bling on the back of that motorcycle. The were no nose dive or any change in speed all the way through the running down of the motorcycle. It seemed the cruiser was going about 80 and the bike was going 50. Also when the guy was remembering to slow down after running over the motorcycle there is a procession of motorcycles heading in the other direction.

^^ Looking at rate of lane divider stripes going by its seems feasible for 25+ mph split and my hunch is also 50/75 for speeds.
Where are they??? How he didn't run over them is beyond reason.

And what final said, if we would have ran down a motorcycle cop, we would have been beaten, interrogated, detained, beaten again, AND NOT go sit at the house on my ass while they figure it out.
Screw the POPO, glad they got this evidence on line before it magically disappeared and no accident ever happened.
Lets see, he will get a slap on the wrist whilst we would receive an attempted murder charge, scumbags

I agree, plenty of time seeing the rear light in the distance. At no point did I see the officer even attempt to slow down or turn before impact.

No, kidding. Shocking the video exists. I would expect no video and police officer blaming it on the motorcycle rider for some concocted reason... no tail light in the dark, or he swerved in front of me.. and motorcycle guy having to pay for the police car.
