My stock horn on my 2004 FZ6 sounded like a moped! I decided to invest $10.38 in a compact air horn and what a difference!

Happy to have a much louder horn, it only took 5 minutes :)

What horns have other people swapped in?

I put a stebel airhorn on a few years ago- it is duo (hi/lo) s
o with the stock as well i have a tri tone and that really gets attention.
My son reckons it sounds like a train coming

you might want to look at putting in a relay in so any extra current draw doesn't burn out your horn button

^+1 on the relay. The switch won't last long if you use it to make/break a 20 amp connection to the horn.

I used a pair of Hella horns tucked into the fairing. They fire downwards and are plenty F'n loud. https://www.600riders.com/threads/winter-project-finished.58258/

@agf , I was originally looking at the stiebal but could not find a good place to mount it. @TownsendsFJR1300 mounted his in the fairing but it looked too tight for me. Post up some pictures of your mount.

I bought a Stebel but never installed it because I couldn't find a good spot for it. I tested it with my car battery and when I fired it off my friend who was standing next to me said that can't be legal! Lol! I separated the horn from the motor and still haven't installed it.

The relay is the way to go.

So what did you do with the horn? Still stock? If you are still looking, take a peek at the Hella Twin Tone TE16. I tucked 2 of them in the fairing and while they are likely not as loud as the Stebel, they draw far less current and are easier to mount. I used a panasonic micro relay which is also easy to mount and they are loud enough to have to warn someone when you demo them for someone. No more Road-Runner meep meep.

I still have it separated from the motor waiting in a bag. Been super busy with other projects. :)
Thank you for the Hella Twin Tone recommendation!

Having looked at a few bikes and the storage they offer, we are pretty lucky in that regard with the fz6. Unfortunately its does become a little limited with the naked.

Under seat and in the side pods particularly for relays and extra fusible connections such as tenders etc. I have a STS indicator cancelling unit just sitting on top of the battery and a brake flash unit under the seat. I put the air filter for the Stebel on an extended hose and it just sits under the tank.
With the horn it was going to be very hard to hide so I decided to make it brutal and fix it where the original horn was sited on the Left Hand side. I made up a bracket from some odds and sods I had laying around and voila that's where it is- very out there and it gets comments from cagers asking “what is that?”
when I give ‘em a toot the understand! while I had the original horn kicking around and had put in the overrated relay and fuse I figured it could go where it sits on the faired version of the bike. wired in parallel, either horn could fail and I have the other as backup not that that is likely.IMG_8809.jpgIMG_8810.jpg

LOVE the color combo ^^^ . I could live with a "naked" exactly as yours Adrian!

Also, the Stebel can be separated and the two parts connected with a rubber hose.
I did this with my old KLR250 and makes the install much easier to fit into small areas..

This is what I did. I got the Denali Soundbomb, which has a very similar form to the Stebel (had the Stebel Nautilus on my old FZS600 Fazer). I put the compressor under the tank, then just about squeezed the horn on the original horn bracket between the forks. Then I just ran the oil hose down the side of airbox, through the frame holes to the front horn. Full write up on fitting the Denali air horn to my FZ6 here.
A bit of a fiddly fit, but not too bad. In hindsight, the front horn needs a slightly longer bracket to raise it higher, as I found on those emergency stops when the forks fully compress it just touches the front fender (though less so since I stiffened the forks up with heavier oil and RaceTech emulators).
