exhaust replace cat mid pipe

I am thinking about replacing the catalitic converter mid pipe on my 2007 with a staight pipe. possibly as a track day mod. not concerned with meeting emission requirements. any thoughts or suggestions?

There's a few companies that make a cat eliminator for around $70-80, or you can rip all the guts out of your stock cat if you're feeling frugal.

Save your money. Remove the cat pipe and punch out the guts with with a large screwdriver and hammer. It helps to drill out as much of the guts as possible with a fairly large drill bit. Worked out great on my 2007.

Yes, I ended up drilling mine with the biggest bit I had and punched out the rest with a prybar and a mini-sledge. It barely made a difference at all in sound and no noticeable change in power. At least I don't feel cheated anymore.

No difference, well thats a bummer. I wonder though.. catalytic converters work by getting really hot and after you cleaned yours out did you notice less heat?

Hmm, don't have emissions testing on bikes here in PA, but gutting the cat will definitely change the numbers. I've read conflicting stories as to whether it adds sound, performance, etc, so go with your gut (oh man, that's bad).

I wonder what an elimination pipe vs. a gutted CAT does on the dyno. The thinking is this, the CAT has that big bulb for the cat and if it is gutted I wonder is it would act like an expansion chamber on a 2-stroke; ie: pressure waves push back, against the flow of the exhaust. Where as the replacement pipe is an even diameter the whole way thus creating no influence on the exhuast path.

I had the some thought as Hellgate about gutting the cat. Leaving that hollow chamber could cause quite a bit of turbulance and interfere with the proper scavenging of the exhaust. I started to do that but ended up making a trip to Advance and fabbing up a piece of flexable exhaust tubing to replace the cat. I think it cost me all of $20 with the clamps and all. Was a bit of a pain getting it connected to the muffler without leakage since I had a hard time finding the perfect adapter. I just ended up stretching out the female connection and exhaust gasket on the muffler side and forcing it together out of the bike. It was fairly easy to just wind the whole thing down to the header pipe.
