We went to the Bullsbrook dawn service today. Very moving, as always. Good crowd - more and more people each year.

Respect all the Diggers, men and women, who have served or died for this country.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

LEST WE FORGET

For our overseas friends....

"Those heroes that shed their blood
And lost their lives.
You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country.
Therefore rest in peace.
There is no difference between the Johnnies
And the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side
Here in this country of ours.
You, the mothers,
Who sent their sons from far away countries
Wipe away your tears,
Your sons are now lying in our bosom
And are in peace
After having lost their lives on this land they have
Become our sons as well."

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk (Commander of Turkish troops) - 1934

Beautiful words. Thanks for posting it Fazil. That speech was repeated at Anzac Cove today by the Turkish soldier.

Both sides at Gallipolli fought hard but fair. They have much respect for each other. Both sides would even allow temporary ceasefires so they could get the wounded and/or dead.

That's why Australia and Turkey are strong allies now.
