Bit confused about Fazer versions...

Hi,

I just bought a 53 plate FZ6 and I'm just a tiny bit confused...

If I'm looking on any sites for parts they generally list Fazers as 98-03, 04-07 and 07 on. My bike was registered in 2003 but it's definitely the liquid cooled, exhausts under the seat model. So, am I going nuts or am I right that when ordering parts (like crash bars) I'm ordering for a 2004 model?

Good question I would like to know also. I have a 2007 is it a Fazer? I do not know, is it an KZ6R again I do not know what the difference is hopefully you will get the replies you are looking for.:welcome:

Was it registered in 03 or is it a 53 plate 04 bike? 04 plate came out in March 04, so Jan and Feb 04 are on a 53.

An underseat model will be an 04, not an 03, for parts ordering.

The name 'Fazer' doesn't really indicate what bike you have. The models are:

Years 98-03 FZS 600 is the older model with the single exhaust. Had a couple of upgrades throughout it's life but is basically the same underneath.

Years 04-09 is the FZ6 which is a completely different bike, but carries the name 'Fazer' for the faired version. This is the underseat exhaust model. It also had an upgrade from 07 onwards to improve the front brakes, cosmetic changes and a few other technical bits and pieces. It also exists as a naked bike which is the FZ6N.

Thank you all for you answers. It's a 53 plate registered in October 2003, but it's definitely an FZ6.

So, I guess my answer is that I need to be ordering for an '04.

Yes! me to! Whatza 53 plate? I know in europe they have a different Motor Vehicle code and plate system and some countries have like tax plates....

We don't have an FZ6R in the UK - I think it's the same as the XJ6 Diversion.

Is this the bike you have? Thats mine December 04' identical to the late 2003



The late 03 and 04 models are the same.

03 means is was produced and registered in 2003. This when the Fazer/FZ6-S came out
if the above is your bike look for 04 onwards when looking for parts

Fair point, but as even the Yamaha webiste describes my 2003 registered bike as a 2004 model, i'm happier trusting the wisdom of the people here

The FZ6R is another completely different bike, and doesn't carry the Fazer name at all. In Europe it has the name XJ6 Diversion. It's also available as a naked (XJ6N) model and fully faired. It 'replaces' the FZ6 which has been discontinued (although still available to buy in some European countries).

I'm not an expert in this, but not federally, no. Each state has registration fees (each vehicle has to be registered to be operated) and localities have automobile tax.
For example, when i register my vehicle in DMV (an equivalent of Vehicle Licensing agency on this side of the pond, as i understand), i pay a registration fee. After that, the DMV will send information to the town I put in the registration. The town will then assess a tax and send me a bill which i will grudgingly pay.

And when your registration runs out, you need to renew it. And if you don't, it expires. And then a year and a half later you realize you've been driving w/o a registration and haven't paid taxes, which means if you get pulled over, you are in a big trouble. You can tell i have some experience in that one.
