I just received my NOS owners manual the other day;it mentions low octane in the fuel,so I filled-up with a tank of 87.
I notice a bit of pinging at low throttle/very gentle acceleration times and less power all-through now. :(
The gasoline out here in CA. does have more Ethanol & other 'additives' in it;I don't believe what's written on pumps being "up to 10% ethanol".
I have gone over the border into NV. and filled up my automobile and vintage motorcycles with Nevada 87 octane: Wow ! 👍
A huge difference, even when running 87 pump 10% ethanol gasoline.
I feel I must start running Premium(91 octane 10% Ethanol is the highest they have here)in my FZ6.

Can you tell me what fuel your FZ6 runs good on ?

Runs great on 87. Perhaps the prior owner performed the timing advance mod to the timing wheel. Otherwise it should work great on California 87 (I’ve never heard that CA has was different to the SAE standard) as thousands of other FZ6’s do.

Perhaps you got some bad gas. Back when I had my 2006 FZ I ran Ca regular all the time with no problems. Even the mighty FJR 1300 ran on 87 just fine. My Super Tenere 1200 calls for premium but I have ran 87 in it with no problems. Throw some premium in it for a tank or two and then try regular again.
