Hi all! This is part intro, part asking for help, and part asking for input.
I was in an auction and walked away with an 06 FZ6. It had no details, no key, no title, and was clearly damaged. After getting it home I checked it all out, bypassed the key, and put power to it. It has 36 miles on the odometer and as soon as I tried to make it start it barked to life. We did a carfax to see if it’s legit and nothing came back, I think it was damaged before ever being sold so no title was issued, the tires seem original too. Everything seems original.

My setup is a lawnmower battery jumping the bike and when I take the lawnmower battery out it dies slowly, weak charging or is the motorcycle battery just so dead it has issues? I checked charging voltage at the lawnmower battery and it bounced between 10 and 13. Most of the fairings are damaged, the front brakes don’t work, seals at the plunger maybe, I tried tapping on it but it won’t return. I can’t tell if the rear works, I can’t easily do it alone but it feels mostly solid like it’s stuck, idk. The tank is beat.

But it runs, holds fluids, shifts, clutch works, rear lights work, it sounds great, seems to hold temp but I didn’t run it long, no engine codes so far, and only 36 miles, I also don’t see any actual damage to the engine or frame, shocks seem fine. It seems like it was in a minor accident or maybe fell off the truck lol

It’s too nice for what I had planned for it so I’m thinking about selling as a parts/ track bike or maybe trade for something like a dirt bike or quad. But what should I ask for? What do you think? Also because a title was never issued, can one be made now? Thank you in advance!

Welcome to our great forum!
Don't run your engine without a battery. This leaves only your regulator/rectifier between your electronics and the stator output.
Check with your local DMV for title requirements. Were there any title requirements when you purchased the bike?

Hey thanks! I’ve been tinkering around with it and I got almost everything to come back around. I kept the dead battery in the bike when testing and when I took the cable off the spare battery it struggled, it was .5v so probably too dead, I’m waiting on a battery now to test the charging system but the stator is in spec. I originally wanted the engine for a cart or something but I think it’s too nice, it’s clearly a new bike that was damaged, like I said the carfax shows nothing but when I put it in a decoder it shows up as an Fz6. I reached out to the dmv and I have to go through the theft bureau first. It has no key, no title, no bill of sale, just a receipt from auction. I’m going to find a parking lot to check the gears out, jump through whatever hoops I can to get a title, and hopefully I can afford insurance but if so I’m definitely going to be putting some miles on it!
