I have a perfectly good 2004 FZ6 that I'd like to mess with, specifically adjusting the maps for a crackle and pop tune. Is that actually possible? Obviously this is the sort of thing that can easily turn an ECU into a brick, but I'm okay with the risk if there's a known way to do it. I'm especially interested in DIYing it if possible, because that seems neat.

I found tools to pull and adjust maps from another similar-era Yamaha (TDM900, mr_hollywood) but I found the pinout doesn't match the FZ6. The TDM900's ECU pinout shows the flashing-related pins as empty on the harness, whereas the FZ6 harness has fewer pins and no empties. Not too promising.

On the other hand, companies advertise mail-in ECU flashing including for the S1, so I consult your wisdom.

You can use a Power Commander or similar to override the stock ECU without needing to risk flashing it.

Good point, and probably the most straightforward approach. Somehow I got it in my head that flashing it would be a fun project though, and I'd probably rather sell and upgrade at this point than put more money into this bike.

I did see that the FZ6 ECU has a K-line data line on the yellow/blue wire. Not sure what other pins need to be manipulated to enable OBD2 output and put it in program mode though.
