The manual states to check chain slack on the centerstand. Presumably checking slack on a paddock stand would throw off the measurement seeing as the swing arm would not be hanging as if it were on the center stand. My bike does not have a centerstand. How do you guys who don't have centerstands go about checking chain slack?

A jack a 2x4 on the bottom of the rear frame. This is what I have to do with my cafe racer that doesn't have a center stand. It helps to have the front tied down. I use tie-down straps and bar savers (just like if I was securing a dirt bike in the back of my pick-up) and I have to hooks screwed into the base of my workbench about 4' apart.

Thanks, I figured that would be something like what I'd have to do. I think I might order a centerstand off ebay to make this easier.

Oh can you? Does it not throw off the measurement to measure on the side stand?

Just a little bit. Read it somewhere (forgot where).

When it's lubed and properly adjusted, the bike, running a steady speed & RPM, you'll see the "bottom run" look almost like a wave, nice and smooth, NO jerking up and down of the chain...
