I fell in love with a ducati

I'm not a huge ducati fan, but this one stole my heart at a motorshow.

It was on a trailor with a 1098 and a 998, and i didn't even notice them at first.

I love my fazer, a lot, but this is another bike that just screams at me: RIDE ME!!!

PS, i AM a huge cafe racer fan though ... and this is a beauty!

i couldnt agree more! motorcycles are affected by technology to much to be ever considered vintage... kinda like computers..old ones just suck.

A riding buddy of mine, who's what I would consider an authority on the history of motorcycles, finally purchased his dream bike earlier this year. This thing is absolutely beautiful.

Abraxas if you want to see pretty old Ducatis go to the Ducati Cafe in Umhlanga, they have a Paul Smart, one of the ones in your first post and a couple of others.

What grabbed me was the old styling, i thought it WAS an older "museum" piece or something, for marketing / advertising only.
Until you look closer, the steering damper, fuel injection, gas shocks (i think) and so on.

That Paul Smart ducati IS beautiful, just bolder than the 1000s, probably more powerful too. Love the double pipes each side Not sure about that frame colour tho ... looks a bit .... dare i say "gay"? Even that coil yellow would have been better? :cheer:

But seeing it in front of the fazer, they both have that WOW factor ... just more complete than the sum of the parts.

i mean considered vintage, as increasing in value with age... maturing... anyway its a matter of preference and i dont want to get flamed again.

if people are willing to pay money to buy things like that well, i cant really say anything.

Yeah, it's definitely the retro styling that gets to me. Every time I see his bike I seem to find something new to look at.

Those double pipes are still the stock pipes. He hasn't decided if he's going with the Termis or Zards yet (although I think he's leaning towards the Zards).

Funny you should mention the frame color...lol. That was the EXACT same thing I thought to myself the first time I saw the bike..."dude, that frame is kinda gay"...lol. But it grows on you. He's also done a lot of modding...the open clutch cover, removed the belt cover on the engine and added some aftermarket colored parts to highlight things. To make it easy to understand...look at the picture of the 1000S you posted at the beginning and the Paul Smart...you can see the covers that have been removed. Also, pretty much anything on the engine that's the gold color is aftermarket and there to highlight the neat bits.

I got to see the Paul Smart Edition that CCHOUSEKY posted above in real life a couple weeks ago. That thing is beautiful. It definitely stands out in a crowd. Funny thing about it when I met the owner, there were 9 or 10 bikes there where we met and one Suzuki Bandit was the only Japanese representative. The others were Aprilia, Ducati and Triumph.

I love Ducati's I own one so I maybe a little partial . a guy I know that live's down in the Portland Area owns a super trick Paul Smart . the list of mods he has done to this bike would make your head spin. Aint she a something





but really if you are going to buy one and its used make sure the service records are all there cause if they are'nt the bike could be a basket case .
