I'm heading out today! I get off work in Santa Monica at noon and will be heading to my insurance place to upgrade my insurance to full coverage (it's about time with how I'm starting to ride!)

I will hopefully leaving around 1pm or so from Santa Monica (Sunset Blvd and the 405 freeway). I will head north on the 101 and am planning to take Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) out of San Luis Obispo.

Any riders interested in riding some of the way? I'll happily stop and meet you. I'll probably have a snack at home and will stop in Santa Barbara or San Luis at Subway to get lunch. Let me know!

Map Link (Route)
333 miles of pure awesome (except freeway LOL)

ps: Click here to join me for the return trip on Monday (Memorial Day)!

That ride is fantastic. I've done the SB to Monterey part of it. Instead of following the 101 from SB to SLO, you should take the 154 from SB to Los Olivos. Although that stretch of the fwy is pretty nice, any ride through through the mountains tops the superslab. Another nice detour is to get off 101 at Pismo Beach and take 227 to SLO. That's another nice road.

On the way back, you might want to consider heading further north to Hollister so you can come down the 25, which is one of the best roads I've ever ridden on. It would be a bit out of your way, but who cares!

So this thread got more interest than the reverse thread of the ride down...so I'll post my pics so that those who expressed interest would have something to drool over ;)

Nice!!! Did you end up having to ride solo?

I finally took that road in my MINI earlier this year and had a blast (used up a lot of karma on that drive, lol) -but I'm dying to take the FZ up and back.

Any interest in a weekend trip up there again this summer? Ride up, camp/stay somewhere near Monterey, ride back? Maybe with a bit more notice we can get a group together?

Yea, a trip up would be awesome. I'm debating the MotoGP as a friend just offered to go sailing to Catalina for the weekend on his boat. I'll definitely be making it back up there though as the gf's parents live there.

There are some awesome campgrounds and the coolest one I passed was Kirk's River (I think). It was on the cliffside of PCH and had spectacular views! I wouldn't even mind being the chase Jeep with all the gear if I could rent a Uhaul to trailer my bike up! Now THAT'S a good idea ;)

we'll talk more about it Thursday if you can make it to Ride Night! Todd might be going to Sequoia the weekend of June 19, so I might ride that with him a bit, but he's hotel staying, but we could possibly camp...
