Have you clicked on a link and it takes you to the forum home page instead of page you were expecting?

These broken links occur often enough that It would be great to report them here when you find one and moderators/admins can edit them to be corrected for future use.

Generally what happens is if the link is pointing to our old domain name the site will push you to our home page. http://www.600riders.com/forum/cmps_index.php

Since we've had a domain name change there are links that still exist in older posts that are pointing at the old domain name. For example here is a link that exists in a post that hasn't been changed: <http://www.600riders.com/forum/garage-mechanical-help/1647-left-handlebar-switch.html> Edit: I correct the link in the post so now its not an example anymore Lol!

If the link is altered to read the correct domain name it will work and you will be brought to that page. For example I'll change the previous broken link to read: http://www.600riders.com/forum/garage-mechanical-help/1647-left-handlebar-switch.html

If you find a broken link please post it here and leave the link to the post where it exists so we can edit the link in the post for future use.

The forum has so much useful information and correcting the broken links will help to keep this forum providing that valuable information.

Admins and Mods: Edit the broken link by replacing the old domain name fz6-forum with the corrected 600riders in the link.

Thank you!:D
Cliff

Excellent! Tks Cliff!

Also - if you find an old post with a picture or link and "you are the OP" you can edit your posts and replace "fz6-forum" w/ "600riders" and fix it yourself!:thumbup:
Tks

Mods!

If you're having a hard time finding pages with dead links... and you're bored/looking for something to do.

Use the search - "600riders.com/forum" for posts - it brought back over 500 results - I'm guessing a fair number of them are pictures/smilies - like in this "happy birthday post"

http://www.600riders.com/forum/the-...html?highlight=600riders.com/forum#post579941

Depending on the data structure of the forum, would it be possible to do a global find/replace/update on all of the content? (in software but have no idea how the content of a forum is stored).

I've done that same thing (search terms). Also I asked behind the scenes about a global "Find & Replace". I'm guessing reward comes w/some risk!

On that note: This server is strange in how it DOESN'T ALLOW SHOW names in local URL descriptions. It truncates everything so the links have no "real meaning"!
If the code for this could be corrected that would be helpful!

Example of outside link working:

Motorcycle Suspension Set-up

--> Notice it displays "Motorcycle Suspension Set-up"

Straight copy paste = NO Name Resolution.

Attempt MANUAL entry! << No Dice! Hate from the server.
http://www.600riders.com/forum/site...-broken-links.html]Please Report Broken Links << This SHOULD have displayed "Please Report Broken Links"

Sample pic attached:

Can anyone explain why?

EDIT::::::::: MORE IMPORTANT - >> the BEER ICON IS BROKEN!

I still cant figure this out.. it has something to do with the SEO program the rewrites links. we are also running a old version of the forum software... we may have to upgrade

Got my FZ6 yesterday and found/went to register for this site today.

The register links on the main page of the forum point to what I guess is an old domain for the forum.

Anyway, they point to:

http://www.fz6-forums.com/forum/register.php

I changed it manually in my browser to:

http://www.600riders.com/forum/register.php

and was able to register.

:welcome:to the forum! Thanks for the heads up on the link. I logged out and went to the register link and it took me right to the http://www.600riders.com/forum/register.php link.

Did Dennis fix this that fast? :D
