Question, sliders ? or Engine guards?

I've always had engine guards on my bikes...however a friend of mine has an 04/05 FZ6 and told me the OE accessories engine guard from Yam. gets in the way of the oil filter so you have to loosen it every time to do an oil change, what a drag....so my question is, have you guys had a chance to use the Sw-Motec guards? or do you just go straight to sliders? sliders would be unobtrusive but don't seem like they'd take low speed impacts as well...high speed might be dif, but if I'm getting into a high speed situation I have other things to worry about...LOL
