I was browsing the Federal Recall site last night, and did a search for 2005 Yamaha FZ6 recalls.... M2209-032R Dated 10/7/09 is a second recall for a very short list of FZ6 motorcycles.

RJ08E - 0004782-88, -4790, 4793-96, -4801, -4803, -4804, -4807, -4808, -4810, -4814 and -4820

The VIN #s are really complex to read.... you need to be concerned with the last four digits. This recall affects any unit, in any warranty state. No matter what, Yamaha is replacing the TPS on these bikes free of charge.

Notice the dealer cost for the TPS is only $73.12, same item retail from Ron Ayers is $106.02, about 45% markup!!!!

In retail that is the "Keystone Discount", code for 45% margin. 45% is the magic number for a retailer being able to pay their bills at the end of the month and eat a box of mac and cheese. Some items have a smaller margin, 20% others are through the roof, 800% in the case of women's makeup. But on average for a shop's inventory 45% is usually the goal. So $106 is spot on.

I did find it somewhat surprising that the front sprocket lock washer deal is not a recall..... potentially stalling in traffic is bad; having your dirve line suddenly lock up HAS to be viewed as wrose!

Why doesn't that rate the same attention?
