Stuck between a rock and a nice place .. but still stuck

Hey All, Hopefully I can get a bit of feedback on this question.

I have a 2006 Black semi faired S1 FZ6, I did the basic racetech fork spring upgrade for my weight, I'm 48 now I've been riding since I was 17. I've had the fizzy for 10 years, love it to bits.

Previously I've had a GSXR 750 and GSXR 600. Those bikes rode like they were on rails, with (telepathic suspension) stunningly handling bikes into any corners.

My conundrum is, a 2010 Triumph Street triple R has just come up at my local dealer, (10,000 miles absolute mint, looks like its 6 months old)
Should I buy it as a second bike (the cost will stretch me a little but do able) Or go all out and buy a Nitron 3 full rear shock and a set of Andreani forks for the Fazer and hope she will be the street bike I've always wanted.

If I upgrade Fizzys Suspension to this quality and hopefully its a life changing upgrade, and gives me full confidence in her handling, which would be wicked, or buy the street triple r and keep both bikes, but won't have the funds to do the Yams suspension for at least another 12 months.

Any thoughts on what you guys would do is greatly appreciated.

I test rode a Street Triple some years ago and it was a very nice bike.

The handling was good, there was lots of power and it was fun.

But, when it came down to it, I couldn't really justify owning two bikes and, with the FZ6, I could load it up with luggage and go on holiday, then take the panniers and top box off and go through the twisties no problems.

So I upgraded my rear shock to a YSS and front springs to Hyperpro and I've not regretted it

Paul, you note that you changed the fork springs to RaceTech, but did you also install Gold Valve Emulators? The straight-rate springs are intended to work as a system with the GVE.

The Street Triple is a great bike and has a superior suspension to the FZ. A friend has a similar vintage 675 and even with my reworked forks and Ohlins shock, his bike has better harmony in ride and handling. With that said, I never give much thought to the ride and handling of my FZ because it is so good. The only time I really notice that it could be better is when I jump on my Ducati.

The FZ is more comfortable and has a better rider triangle then the Triumph. If you get the suspension dialed in you will be happy. But will you be happy enough?

Thanks Graham and Gary, no I didn't do the GVE Gary, I test rode the STR RS when it came out 2018 I think, I'm 6.3ft and the bike felt small and a little cramped. The 2010 has a little more leg room.

Yes the Street triple is indeed quite superior, suspension, brakes the whole package really. What I'm trying to do is get the FZ6 to handle (in corners) the best I can possibly get it too.

I'm not bored of her, the power suits me all day everyday, the sit up relaxed style the versatility in general is second to none. I just miss the handling of the GSXR's I guess I'm trying to emulate the handling of them into the FZ6's ergonomics.

Now that I have some spare cash as I sit in front of the pc this evening I'm going to pull the plug on the Nitron R3 shock, (need a new shock anyway) the forks I'm still wondering about, taking a step above the GVE's with Andreani fork internals (https://www.omniaracing.net/en/andr...rtridge-for-yamaha-fz6-20042010-p-270496.html ) or 2003 R6 forks.

Surely those set ups (balanced by a suspension tech) would completely transform the bike?

I guess it comes down to your definition of 'completely'. I'm sure you understand that there have to be some compromises in handling to have a more comfortable riding position, it's just a question of how much you have to give up.
It sounds to me like the changes you are planning would make a big difference and probably get you a fair bit closer to sportbike handling.
My biggest issue with the FZ6 is the buffeting when I get up behind other vehicles.
The Adreani system is sure interesting with the compression on one side and rebound on the other.

Cheers man, Yes I did order both the Andreani and a Nitron R3. 4 week wait time, I'll bring the bike to a suspension specialist here in Dublin and get the set up properly. Looking forward to it! I'll post pics and updates when done,

I’m looking forward to a review of the Andreani inserts. They seem like a very good alternative to R6 forks.
