Need Help Wheel not moving and weird noises from left side of bike

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me out.
I ride a 2007 Yamaha FZ6 S2 and ran into a serious issue today. I was stopped at an intersection and when I tried to shift into first gear, the neutral light went off, but the bike wouldn’t move. When I let out the clutch, I heard some weird mechanical noises.

I ended up trailering the bike home. Now, with it on the center stand, I put it in gear and give it some throttle — the engine revs, and the speedometer shows speed increasing, but the rear wheel doesn’t move at all. It also makes strange noises when I let the clutch out.

I'd really appreciate any advice on what to check next before I dive deeper. And if I have to dive deeper, any recommendations for an amateur?

Turn the bike off and pull the cover off the front sprocket. You'll see the sprocket has probably come off. Hopefully there is no spline damage to the output shaft and you can reinstall with a new nut and locking washer assembly.

It's somewhat odd as the S2 has an updated "set up"...

hey guys. So it was a sprocket nut . I was already looking for a new engine to swap them since it wouldn't make sense to repair the transmission. Thank you a lot

Did it look like the old one was the proper type, or was it gone? For the S2 it's a special nut, and like Townsend said above, it's not a common issue like on some other bikes.
Or perhaps the nut had been replaced with the correct one, but the locking collar was not tapped into the shaft.

I have ordered a new one with a washer so we will see... Also I have heard that is it recommend to put a glue on it to secure it

That nut also has a thin outer edge, (mentioned above) that you hammer it down on the flat of the output shaft.

I put red Loctite on the threads as well.

How's the threads look on the output shaft?

Could something get damaged because of that? And also what could cause it to just disappear?

What he means is the sprocket worn down all the threads on the output shaft-NOT GOOD.

There may not be any threads left for the nut to hold on to.

Here you can see them. It is all right. I am living abroad and left my bike there so I asked my friend to do all the work for me and this is the only picture I got at the moment. I have already bought the tickets home to look at it

Doesn’t look promising. The threads appear to be worn down. You might not get engagement with the nut.
