Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 2007 FZ6 and I purchased a seat lock kit because my seat lock was missing. This kit came with the seat lock, gas cap with new lock, and ignition cylinder (the whole unit) plus new keys. I installed the seat lock and gas cap no problem but I needed help on installing the ignition/key cylinder. I have checked the service manual but I cannot find a procedure in it. (I tried searching for those and other terms but it didn't return what I was looking for).

Can someone give me a quick list of steps (not too much explanation needed per step- I'm pretty proficient). If there is a way to do it without taking the forks off It would be best.

Lastly, does the 2007 have an immobilizer? (This question is more for curiosity than anything).

Thanks in advance.

If it's a US bike there is no immobilizer. The security screws are a trickier problem. If you splice any of the wiring, be sure to disconnect the negative lead on the battery.

I believe the plug for switch to the main harness is under the battery tray.

Re removal from triple clamp. The switch is bolted with "security bolts"-the heads shear off (leaving nothing for a thief to grab-not an allen, reg bolt head.-see below pic)

Support the bike on the CC, I use a scissor jack under the header and just get the ft end off the ground. Remove pinch bolts to fork legs, main large center bolt, handlebar removed (loosened and pulled away is fine) to remove the triple.

Now with access to the underneath/security bolts you can either center punch/drill the head off and remove the switch OR carefully grind the head off. The switch will then slide off what's left-long studs..

Take a vise grip, grab them and spin them out.

Install the new switch with either new OEM / security bolts or allen head / regular bolts (maybe a lil loctite) and re-assemble.

Dunno if that Dremmel will "cut it" or perhaps might get a bunch of disc's.

There's not alot of metal to be ground away but the dremmel cutting disc(IME) isn't very stout.

(I use them little disc's for cutting a flat screw driver SLOT usually into small carb adjustment screws, etc(very, very light duty stuff))..

Plz post back how it goes..

Dremel has a great cutoff tool that utilizes a quick change arbor. The metal cutoff discs are fiber reenforced which makes them very stable compared to some other types. It also accommodates other type wheels like diamond wheels for cutting ceramic.
Check them out!
