Big Banks Don't Want California's IOUs - WSJ.com

The banks aren't very amused. Apparently the state set a maturity date of October 2nd for these, so they will be worthless at least until then. I wonder how they set that arbitrary date given the fact that the have made no progress, the economy is continuing to decline, unemployment continues to increase, as do their welfare rolls... so essentially they are just continuing to dig a deeper hole with no solution in sight. It almost seems like they are waiting for a bailout.

Obama promissed he would not bail out the states. Now he is not denying that his staff are calling for Stimulus 2, since the first has "failed" even though they haven't even begun to spend it, and that #2 would include bailouts for the states. Looks like we may be paying for their mess after all.

Dear God they are now debating the definition of 100% pomegranite juice instead of their bankruptcy.

Budget Battle Devolves Into Food Fight - cbs13.com

When a congressman from California is chastising the action star governor for not understanding the importance of legislating pomegranite juice regulations rather than dealing with a statewide meltdown, you know you're in good hands.

Senate Majority Leader Dean Florez (D-Fresno) called Governor Schwarzenegger's criticism "childish" and said he is fed up.

"The governor's turned from an action hero into just another politician," Senator Florez said. "He should really, really take a course on fundamental government on how the legislature works."

Unbelievable. As if he's saying we aren't here to these solve problems we created, we're here to create more arbitrary rules. Stupid governator just doesn't get it

I honestly believe at this point their strategy is to ignore it until they get a bail out. We'll see.
