Have to give credit to Motogiro in Post #8; the part is a plug for the cast frame.

Perfect, Thanks! It never even occurred to me to search, since all I could come up with is "mystery part". But it looks like that search would have found it!

I don't know what people even did before the internet. You'd have to take that part to the dealership, and they'd all scratch their heads over it and say "dunno, looks like a plug for something"
