Another step closer to having the bike how i want it, had the stock exhaust modified today by a local exhaust specialist here in SA called Reline Exhaust. I understand he's done the same previously for other members on here but they don't appear to visit much lately.
Any how not 100% on details but was a case of removing baffle piping and enlarging the exit pipes. Either way it sounds much better, has gotten deeper note and a bit louder. Not loud enough to be an attention seeker but i can now hear it and cars around me should too. All keeping the stock look.

glad you are getting more than just the ride type of enjoyment from the FZ
They are a true delight to ride, Im sure you"ll find it more and more

My next venture into mods is likely to be a repaint on the exhaust shsroud and the grab bars
grab bars the same yellow as the tank the shroud the same satin black as the frame unless I can lay my hands on an exhaust at the right $

Gday Adrian would be interested in hearing if and how you go about painting the shroud. I'm sure with correct primmer and paint it should come up a treat and deal with the heat too. Mine has a couple little marks on it that i'd like to eventually cover up. I just can't see having the spare cash for aftermarket pipes in the near future so had the stock mod done. Very happy so far :)

yeah the thing I dont like about the shroud are the moulding marks so Id be doing quite a bit of prep work, but its not my big priority, the grab rail is more the part I want to paint
glad you like the exhaust mod Alan, any chance you can post a video?

Update - must say very happy with the modified stock exhaust sound, its loud enough around town and out cruising but nothing that's to annoying. Chucked a set of new adjustable black levers on that blend better than the stock silvers and also new set of tyres. Was looking Z8's or Pilot Road 2 / 3's but long story short now rolling on a set of Pirelli Angel GT's and I'm by far no expert but they feel great to me with 400k's on them in the first 2 days. Little bit of "bling" in the form of reflective silver rim tape but must say the jury is still out on if that will remain or be removed yet.

from my POV the rim tape looks way cool, But I do like the lift it gives to the wheels not to mention the safety asoect.
as far as rubber is concerned, in reality, with today's compounds, whats on the market and our general riding abilities, we are always going to be happy with a quality product
good on you for the upgrade
safe riding- ATGATT

all in all its looking grand- and thats a very nice pic with the bluestone background-----Feb BOTM, get a few more posts happening or go elite, we'd be more than happy to see shots like that in the comp

Hey are our speedo's on these "adjustable" at all? Reason i ask, i've rised with 2 blokes at separate times and both say i'm always speeding when i know i'm sitting on the posted limit or maybe 1 or 2 km/h over according to my speedo. Then further i noticed i seem to pull away from cars when cruising once again when my speedo reads the posted limit.
I know cars are meant to read higher than actual and i guess bikes too but mine seems in reverse:confused:

Pretty certain there are no knobs to turn or buttons to push to make any adjustments. But your experience does seem to be the opposite of what most others have commented on.

Your speedo might be reading lower if you or the previous owner replaced the sprockets. The normal set has a 16 tooth in the front and many people replace it with a 17 which makes their high-reading speedometers read closer to actual, but still a bit high. A smaller sprocket in the back would go in the same direction but would take a bigger reduction in the number of teeth.

The other likely thing is that the previous owner might have installed a device to correct the higher than actual readings from the speedometer and might have over-corrected. Many of us have installed the speedohealer or speedodrd. The correction is adjustable and the prev owner might not have checked his correction.

;)It's also possible that your speedo is correct and your buddies' are reading incorrectly. Good luck with that conversation.

Try checking your speedo calibration by doing a test with a friend who is driving a non-sporty car. Many sporty cars also often come from the manufacturer with the speedo reading higher than actual. So use a sedan or minivan.:D

My bike has standard tires and sprockets. I bought the speedodrd and had to set it to -4.5% to get an accurate reading - compared to my wife's Outback.

Yes just read a few posts on "speedo healers" (should have searched first) but yes mine seems the opposite to the norm. Could be a possibility the previous owner has fitted one already. I personally haven't had covers or the tank off so will need to have a look.

The SpeedoDRD, and I think the Speedohealer, though connected to the original cuicuit under the tank, have the "control panel" located just under the seat in the tool rack area. I'm not sure what the healer looks like but the DRD is a small rectangular circuit board, about 1 cm by 2 cm, at the end of a multi wire cable, and is encased in a vinyl tube, sealed at both ends. You hold down a micro switch, through the coating to change settings, reset it, or to check the max speed recorded. The settings are shown bu a series of timed blinks on a tiny LED. The max speed is dispayed on the speedometer.

Cheers guys. Will check that out when we catch up for a ride in the near future Mick. Actually had a last minute call from a mate in your area telling me he was cruising to Victor via Meadows etc last Sunday which i tagged along on. Left like 7am to beat the heat but hell it warmed up quick, even down Victor was hot but was cooling passing the lake around Milang :)
I'll be repeating that ride again but i'll give you a heads up first Mick and any other South Aussies keen.

Actually learnt a valuable lesson on that ride on Sunday, was on the last 20 k's home when suddenly "Jessica" started surging and spluttering, then come good for a couple hundred metres then surging again and the engine light flashed on couple blinks.
Pulled over thinking "wtf" as the temp was all good, plenty fuel. Went to fire her back up and nothing not even dash pre check. Straight to battery and bugger me the negative terminal vibrated loose - quick tighten and bang Jessica is sweet again:rockon:

Thanks Bigdog, as much as I'd love to see and experience snow I'm sure glad here in South Australia we don't get it. Actually did a speed test last night with my wife driving my late model car and appears I'm about 6km's over actual displayed speed on my bike. So if ride 5km's under the posted limit i'll be fine for now.

Sounds good! At least you know were you are now.

And I will share what I can. This is in my back yard. The lump farthest to the left is my 01 Pontiac grand Prix. Close in size to the holden monaro

I've been told that adding GREDDY and NISMO type stickers to a rice car adds to the performance so i thought time to sticker up the swing arms :Flash:
