RIP Adam Yauch "MCA" - Beastie Boys

Loved his music!


"Beastie Boys" rapper MCA -- real name Adam Yauch -- has died.

In 2009, MCA announced he was being treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. He has since undergone surgery and radiation therapy.

So far, it's not clear if the death is related to the rapper's battle with cancer.

Russell Simmons' website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.

Yauch co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, Mix Master Mike, and Ad Roc. The group has won multiple Grammys.

Yauch became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.

Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.

He was 5 years older than me. Used to wonder why people liked them back when they first came out, thought they sounded horrible and their music was a joke.

Years later I bought a couple of their later CD's and enjoyed their music.

Yes it is a sad day. Adam will be missed. I was living in Long Island when they made it big with License to Ill. Many of mornings on the school bus jamming to the Beastie Boys. What a contribution and anchor to the band.

I am gutted, I really enjoyed their vibe and I also admired the way the band grew up as kids, into responsible people who tried to open minds through music.
