STATE ROUTE 2 REOPENS

San Bernardino County – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is pleased to announce that State Route 2 (SR-2) from Vincent’s Gap to Islip Saddle will reopen on Friday, May 7th, at approximately 2:00 p.m. after hibernating for the winter.

This 10-mile section of SR-2 just west of Wrightwood closes annually during snow season due to high snow drifts and unmanageable conditions.

Caltrans Maintenance has spent the last month plowing snow and making routine repairs to guardrail, signs and the roadway in order to reopen in time for spring.

Severe winter conditions in 2004/05 caused extensive damage at 17 sites along this stretch of SR-2. Additional damage occurred in spring 2006 and required the construction of a bridge designed to allow rocks and run-off water to flow beneath it.

The route reopened in May 2009 after Caltrans District 7 (Los Angeles) spent $10.5 million on a project to make the repairs and safety improvements.

This scenic route provides a direct connection to and from Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties for motorists, sports enthusiasts and emergency responders. The breathtaking scenery and relaxing drive are worth the wait.

For more roadwork information, please go to Welcome to Caltrans District 8 | Serving Riverside and San Bernardino Counties and sign up for Commuter Alerts under “CT Connect”.

Remember the new “Move Over” law. When you see road workers or emergency responders on the highway, slow down and move over – for your safety and theirs.

That will be great, I was up that way yesterday from the La Canada side and SR2 was closed, had to back track and found a way up Big Tajunga Canyon to Angeles Forest Hwy. Ground cover is growing back and the road was in good repair, lots of CalTrans working on guard rails and general road repair.
I'll ride it Sunday from the Wrightwood side and see how it is:D

As soon as I get my wheels back I'm up for a ride there. Sound like it would be a great ride!

Hey Jerry, make sure to report back! Ride Safe! :)

Yo brother! How are you feeling a few days later?

Did you insurance take over yet? Any updates on the bike? Make it happen we need to ride!!!! :D

Interesting. Got pulled over by an ANF copy (I was sitting shotgun) and he told us AFH->ACH wouldn't be open until mid to late summer. It's out commuting route and that would save us an extra 5 or 10 minutes each way.

So are you saying that all of highway 2 is now open, or just a small section? Is it open from the 210 yet?

No, I tried going through the barriers yesterday only to be stopped around the next bend by a roadblock who told me NOT OPENED. You can sneak around and go up Big Tujunga Canyon, from there you have the option of going right on Angles Forest Hwy over to SR2 to Newcombs and past to the barrier by old Hwy 39 or you can go left toward Palmdale on Angeles Forest Hwy.

I'll go up on Sunday to Vincent Gap to see if the gate is open:thumbup:

I'm hot on it and took my bike in today. Of course as I was riding it with all the plastic and windscreen gone I was thinking, "Hmmmm this would be on mean looking naked bike", and then I just wanted to take it and go hit some turns but decided, the sooner I get it in, the sooner I'll have it home.
Feeling a little better but still sore. I think I'm mostly aching to ride!!!Hahaha
