I haven't been watching much news, so I didn't know just how bad it is down there until reading this thread. Good luck to you all, hope things get better soon!

God, I hope it ends soon. Just heard that there is now 170 deaths, and the levelled towns are now being called crime scene's, as they believe most of the fires were deliberately lit.
What is wrong with people that they get a "rush" from lighting fires... bloody un-F*%#$&#-believable. So that makes it mass-murder... I hope they catch the ba$tards.

And now it gets worse, they are saying people are coming in and looting the towns, what low lifes, more have been found dead, and we still have 6 weeks of extreme fire danger season to go. Listening to the radio and a lady was saying she had lost her home, but that was nothing because the next door neibours had lost their 2 children, its so so sad.

The emotion is overwhelming. Just been watching the morning show, got a lump in the throat and a few tears... 
Just to set the scene for our international mates, Sth Aus and Victoria generally consider each other "enemies". The local football league has 2 Sth Aus teams, and 8 Victorian teams... and things are generally a bit tense.
Something like this happens, and that all goes out the window, and the generousity of everyone shines through.
The Bushfire Appeal run by the Red Cross, has received donations of more than $14 Million in 2 days, from people all around this great nation and from overseas.
There is a cricket match today at Adelaide Oval, (between Aus and New Zealand) and all of the players are donation their match payments to the appeal.
Local radio stations are running collections of clothes and food, can be dropped off at our local showgrounds, and a courier company is going to deliver everything over to Victoria free of freight charges.
It's wonderful to see that everyone is pulling together, even in these hard times where money is tight, to help out people in greater need.

+1 here. the news just now said it's the worst environmental disaster in a century there. my deepest sympathies in such a tragic time.
it is horrible what is going on down there, i hope it is all better soon.

Just heard on SKYNEWS, America is sending some help too. Experts in fire-front communication and aircraft co-ordination. There is already an American expert in the fire-zone here, helping with co-ordination and reporting back to his US head office.

The news has just stated that we have had 3 fires intentionally lit in belair national park. Damn this is going to bring all the freaks out, anyone in south aus who is complasant should be worried. It might happen here at any moment, dont they think victoria has suffered enough for the whole of australia.
