Thoughts are with the Ozzies

On occasion I "Tongue in cheek" take the P¤¤s out of the Aussies on here when they tell me about how nice the weather is down there when it is freezing here.

Today in Denmark it snowed before I got out of bed. When I got up it was lovely and sunny and the whole land was covered with snow. I had a good breakfast and then Jannie and I walked in the woods, which was like a winter wonderland. We saw 2 massive stags, quite close up which were very impressive.

After lunch the snow began to melt so we took a cycle ride for 90 minutes by the sea, it was cold but still sunny.

After our evening meal we watched the news and heard about the disaster unfolding in Australia, where 96 people have died in the forest fires and countless people have lost their homes and all they posess.

After the day I have had which was wonderful and then hearing the news, I realise 2 things. The first is how fortunate we are and secondly how easy it is to remember how fortunate we are.

Our hearts sincerely go out to all those people suffering in Australia at this very sad time. We hope the suffering will soon pass.

Yes, the fires down under is getting a lo of media coverage here in the states. The videos are incredible. They have found people burned alive in their cars trying to escape the fast moving fires. Worst, they say the fire could have been started intentially. Kind of reminds me of the fires that California experiences every year.

Hope things turnaround as far as getting the fire under control, but droughts are tough. Stay safe.

Kinglake, Marysville........ just gone from the map, we hear. Only an hour from home, and where We'd normally head out for a Sunday afternoon ride. Official death toll in Victoria alone is now 108, and emergency workers are only just starting to get into some areas...... my heart goes out to them and their families.

It's bad. Real bad. Thanks to all the folk here for their kind wishes.

Going back a few years, we had similar fires, and they named a day after them... Ash Wednesday... and (as Ozfazer said) these are far worse.

My thoughts go out to all the people over in Victoria, may it all be over very soon.

One thing that made it even worse, the cool change that is coming in, is bringing strong winds from different directions, and that could flare them up again

Fingers crossed the CFS (Country Fire Service) get them under control ASAP.

Big :thumbup: the the CFS guys and gals too, all volunteers doing their bit for their country.

I can't even begin to imagine what these fires are like. I hear some of them were started by arson

Events like this really bring it home..We in the uk complain about the rain..(well i do)..wow big deal..you guys in the US suffer earthquakes,tornados,hurricanes,flash flooding,landslides and the occasional volcano..and now AUS.getting this heatwave and the subsequent firestorms..kinda makes the rainey days here somewhat insignificant!

I hope the death toll doesnt get much higher and hope all our Ozzy members stay safe.

I just came back from a long weekend ride in the South of Tassie and had no idea what had happened on the mainland. Thankfully the weather looks alot better for next few days for all the firefighters and those protecting homes.

I was just looking at some pics of the fire and there was one of a little boy in a car and the look on his face is just pure terror,I just can't comprehend what they must be going through.Watching the broadcasts brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye.I just don't understand how people could light some of these

Thanks for all the well wishes guys , the whole country is stuggling to come to terms with the situation ........It really is dire straights down there in Victoria and the news has just been updated to a confirmed 126 dead ....My heart goes out to all those who have been tragically taken and those who are left behind .......And to all those fire fighters on the front line , keep up the good work you guys are doing a hell of a job :thumbup:

Here here south aus has been complaining about heat but the vic's have got way worse,flooding in queensland bush fires in vic, there was still 30 fires burning this morning, and more than one of these would have been intentional. We call ourselves the lucky country, i would hate to see what would happen if we were the unlucky country, thoughts and wish's going out to all who have been affected by this.

The magnitude of the fire, destruction and the loss of life has become global news. Not sure how other media coverage has handled the news, but it's the leading news here in Vegas. We get a lot of visitors from our friends from down under and we certainly feel for them. Entire towns vanished, that's unheard of.
