Thoughts on this headlight modulator?

Seems like an inexpensive safety mod. Trying to figure out a clean way to wire in a disable switch for nighttime use.

Any of you electrical gurus have any ideas?

They are legal during the day, but if you rig it so that it comes on at night, you can get a ticket!

Wire a switch across the two terminals of the device. Switch ON disables flash, switch OFF enables flash. Switch will need to be able to carry the current required by the lamp.

I thought some come with a light/dark sensor? Also, I talked to some bike cops, and they said that the only way that headlight modulators are legal is when they come with it on the bike new, however, they said that they wouldn't give you a ticket for making yourself seen better.

What bike comes standard with a modulator on the headlight? You need to tell your bike cop buddies to read the law again. Headlight modulators on cycles are legal in all 50 states and Canada. Aftermarket or not, federal law permits them. I've been pulled over several times for a "malfunctioning" headlight. I just hand the officer a copy of the law (came with my modulator) and let them read it for themself. I've never gotten a ticket.

Lamps to emit steady light
316. Unless otherwise provided elsewhere in the regulations, a lamp fitted to any vehicle shall emit a steady light when in operation: Provided that an ambulance, rescue vehicle, fire-fighting vehicle, a motor vehicle operated by a traffic officer, a member of the Service or a member of a municipal police service, both as defined in section 1 of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act No. 68 of 1995), in the execution of his or her duties, may be equipped with a device which enables the driver of such vehicle to operate the vehicle’s head lamps in such a manner that they flash intermittently.

Thanks for that info, I only know what they told me. They said that the Honda Goldwing did.

The honda goldwing I know had an option from factory to have it installed. But standard i dont think so. You also have to be care ful because factory says addons are not standard equipment. But yeah my dads friend had a gold wing that he said it came that way new.

If the modulator doesn't have an "on/off" switch, make sure it comes with a light sensor so it turns off at night time (night time modulation is a no-no!).
