The Squirrel thread

"Flying squirrels....so what? We make 'em everyday!"
But seriously folks: Wonder what kind of G's these guys are pulling? How do they compare to an astronaut...or maybe a place kicker in the NFL? 40, 45, 50 yards?
Squirrels were tracking mud all over my back deck until I figured out how to keep them away: A piece of black rubber hose, NOT laid out straight. They must think it's a snake and they will not come hear it now! (Your method looks like so much more fun though, for all involved!)

The baby rattlers are the really dangerous ones.

Tarantulas have a defense mechanism where they'll fan their back with their rear legs which sends those hairs into the air behind them as defense to irritate the eyes and sinus of a predator.

Here's one I ran into in New Mexico. A real pretty brown!

How about this little guy in Death Valley

Dang, these (at least that one) are so agile and quick. But, it seems that when I come across one on the road, I have to really slow down (and be careful I don't get rear-ended) and continue to slow down even when it reverses course and heads back to the side because, EVERYTIME, it will then reverse course again and head right back into my line. They sure are smart when it comes to dancing around a rattler but come time to cross a highway--they are as reckless as nuts!

Aww Dude that Sucks the Bird ate your squirrel !! I heard a bunch of noise outside the other day,and went to look and my cat had just killed a full grown squirrel and was dragging it off into the neighbors bushes to eat it ! it ain't like my cat is starving !! I guess squirrel must be the Lobster of the rodent family...

no it wasnt mine.. i was outside for a bit this summer and the thing just hopped right over.. seemed to be all discombobulated because after about 5 mins, the thing layed down by my fence for liek an hour and look/acted like it was dead. then just hopped right up and was full of it.. very friendly and wanted to keep going on top of my foot.. strangest thing.. my neigbor brought it down to the park (about 2000ft down the way) and then the next day i saw this bird out front (see pictures).. when i went over to check out what it was up to, i saw the rest of the squirrel.. i think it must have fallen out of a tree or something, because i have never had a squirrel just come up to me like that.. felt bad, but nature.. what can ya do..

Wow that is wild ! I have never seen a squirrel that freindly. my freind found a baby squirrel in front yard and feed it and kept it in a big bird cage and handled it everyday, and I came over to see him , and he let the squirrel out to show me how tame it was( he had it for about 4-5 monthes at the time) it climbed up on his shoulder and Bite a small peice of his ear OFF !! :BLAA: it ended up smothered in gravy shortly after that...... :D

Is that a flying squirrel?

Over here I have seen a video where they launch a squirrel off a clay pigeon trap- now that is harsh... even for a squirrel

Here we have greys and they have nearly killed off the native reds

in ct we mainly have greys... only in vt have i seen a red one.. down south ive seen some black ones.. crazzy how many colors they have..

Do the different colors dictate different taste? Seriously, never had squirrel, so I figured maybe different species = different taste.

It's funny, when I lived in the city, there were squirrels everywhere. Now that I live in the mountains, they're nowhere to be found. I saw a roadkill squirrel a few days ago on the local road, and I thought to myself, "Gee, the only squirrel in a 50 mile radius, an it somehow managed to get nailed on this secluded two lane mountain road." LOL

Is it just me or is there a huge opportunity here to upscale this design? I'm thinking full scale trebuchet. :BLAA:

Post #10

They don't look like they would taste very good :Flash:

They'll probably taste fine :BLAA: but they'll be a little tough! :rof: :rolleyes:
