After riding with the 8 year old rear tire for a long time, i bought a new Pirelli 140-90-15 Route 66 tire for my beloved virago 250.

Here is the question,

Can i use existing inner tube or should i buy a new inner tube also?
I am against consupmtion by the way

def a new tube, the old one may not have leaked before,
but changing the tire and handling-repositioning an old
tube like that can cause a leak

Always replace the tube when changing tires on the older spoked wheels, that few $ is well worth the security.

A word of advice from mountain biking. Get talcom powder (baby powder) and rub down the tube with it. Its mostly for preservation but I've noticed that I got less flats (from slow leaks when sitting in storage for the week) after using talc. Now the 990 Adventure gets the same treatment since I have to use tubes on that badboy.

You don't mention that the tube is the same age as the tyre?
To my thinking the tyre has done well to last 8 years and is now at the end of it's serviceable life. So for safety you are changing it.
An 8 year old tube will have lost a lot of its natural integrity.
I would change it for a new one and keep the old one as an emergency spare. That way you are still helping with the consumption.

I change tubes every other tire, or if they're more that a couple years old..

It'd be $14 well spent.. Flats suck.. :)

I've put the tire 8 years ago but i didn't know the tire manufacture date was 1996  It is almot 15 years old. It took 3 guys and 10 minutes to take the tire out of the rim. It has badly hardened. While they were working on it they exploded the inner tube also. So it is garbage.

A new inner tube is $30 here.
