Chain tension

I just bought my FZ6 about a week ago and Im having a blast!

When I was leaving from the seller's house, he told me that I may need to adjust the tension of the chain. How do you know if it is too loose? Also, is it something that I can do myself or should I just take it to the shop?

It is something you can do yourself (relatively easy). Do you have your owner's manual? If not, you should.. do a search on this site. There are links to PDF version of the manual.

This is something you should know how to do when owning a bike. Easy peasy to do. Chain slack should be almost 2" when on center stand.

2.0" of play at the center of it is about right. If you can get it to touch the swingarm by pulling up hard on the bottom of the chain then it's definitely too loose.
