In order to fit both motorcycles and two cars in my garage I needed a way to fit my FZ1 in without making a 89 point turn. So enter "The Motorcycle Dolly!" I actually thought up the idea and after a bit of Googling found that someone was already making one for a cool $199.00. Ouch. So being the enterprising young man that I am I decided to have one made. Four casters from Harbor Freight and a trip to my local welding shop I give you "The Motorcycle Dolly!"

I LOVE IT! Is it real easy to move the bike around then? Parking the bikes is, for some reason, difficult for me to do. They have to get nuzzled in there just right!

It make moving a bike sideways much easier. The only issue with the FZ1 is it is very nose heavy and you really have to push on the back of the bike in order to get the front up. But it is much quicker and fast than the 89 point turn. It will make get the bike out for the commute quicker too.

What did it end up costing you, if you don't mind me asking?

ps. floor looks great!

It wasn't much cheaper then what I found on-line, but this one fits the FZ1 as we had to off set the wheel closest to the centerstand lever.

Cost:

Casters: 4 X $6 = $24
Materials: $24
Labor: 2 hours at $55 = $110

Total: $158.

How stable is it when you pop it up on the centerstand? Do you put your foot in back of the wheels?

Once it's on the stand it's rock steady. I had my son hold it in place as I propped it up. I think with some practice I'll be able to position it with my foot, and then lift it up.

The Fat Jack is a great idea! It's a very simple solution. I vaguely remember reading that post now.

If I'd found the Fat Jack I probably would have just order it instead of making one.

When I was searching the web not much came up. Mainly those really long dollies for cruisers.

Nice idea. I have a paddock stand that has 3 sets of wheels, that all pivot, and as such, acts as a dolly...very handy in the shed, and very handy with a bike with limited steering lock.

The only problem with dolly's is that if you use them on anything other than a perfectly flat floor, they tend to get caught on cracks, or joins, etc...
