I have a Motodynamics LED tail light that the PO installed. It is the 'Smoke' tinted, and I am beginning to think that it is just not bright enough. Considering the tint and the somewhat 'directional' of the LED's, I am not happy with the light output. So the plan is to reinstall a regular tail light then stuff it with the brightest dual-contact that will fit.

I am seeing some conflicting postings about LEDs for tail/brake lights, focusing on the dual intensity requirements. And the product descriptions on the web are usually worthless. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with any particular make/model LED? I'd like to get some feedback from folks before I do the research and take the plunge.

Thanks

They don't sell the one I used on my FZ6 which worked well. They do have another that may be even better.
Even though your lens is red make sure you order a red LED type. A 6000k white will tend to give a pinkish color through your red lens.Let us know what you choose and how it works! :)

Thanks Cliff. In my research I am looking for 2 attributes: Total brightness and Diff% between low and high. The bulb you linked me to has an impressive 87% difference, but when I look at the output of the red compared to white the numbers are staggering. In white they post 270 lumens, but the red is only 80. I wonder if that is a function of the wavelength of the red.

I was looking at https://www.superbrightleds.com/mor...18-smd-led-tower-bay15d-retrofit-car/811/726/ . It has a diff% of 72%, but a whopping 270 lumens output. If it is just color, I am ok. Anyone who says 'Look at that silly pink light' can see me.

Your thoughts?

I hadn't looked at the specs. on this lamp but I see the difference in lumen output is vast when comparing the red to white. Pick the warm white 1157-WW3W-G (2900nm) and I bet it'll be fine. The 650nm to 2900nm wavelength could be why the lumen measurement is so different. I'm pretty sure these lamps use current limiting through resistance for differential brightness for the running light to brake light emulation.
