Hi Guys,

If at all you have to/got a chance to upgrade your garage with a new bike, which one would you go?
Will you stick to Yamaha and get one of the FZ07/8/9/1?
or any other brand and model.

My case, I'll buy used, so to get rid of that depreciation value (is that bad idea to buy used?).
Budget should be less than USD 4.5k(used) and 7k (new) on-road.

Share your experiences and regrets, after going to a different bike leaving FZ6 (s1 or s2)?

I'm looking for a similar bike multi-purpose like, track~touring~street.
After looking at the specs for FZ07, only 75hp and 50 torque, I feel like going for FZ09, but that 3-cylinder scares me to go down to fz08.

I'll probably own a Street Triple R in the next year or two. I test rode a new one a couple weeks ago and it was great. Good stock suspension, plenty of power, available ABS, available factory heated grips, pretty reliable, awesome intake sound, and sexy looks (though I'd probably retrofit the round bug eye lights). You can find used examples under $7k, but I haven't seen any used R packages under $4500. ABS was only an option starting in 2013, so it'll be a few years before they dip into your budget.

~100hp is great for me. I can use all of it without being (too) illegal, and it never feels slow. I've ridden an FZ1 and the extra power was just useless for me. It's geared much taller than the FZ6, so I found myself downshifting anyway to use the power. However, also since it was geared so tall, I couldn't wring it out without going well into illegal speeds.

The FZ-09 is a great bike, but even if you dump money into the suspension to overcome it's major shortcoming, it still has that silly digital readout. I like having an analog tach. Not sure why everyone (except Triumph?) has abandoned that in favor of a more-difficult-to-read digital readout. I also don't feel that I need the extra torque it provides over the Street Triple, so that's not a selling point for me.

The FZ6 is probably the best balance of everything which is why I still have it. With upgraded suspension, it will hang with track bikes in the curves, and its revvy engine will keep me from being embarassed on the straights. When I'm done at the track, I can throw my top case on it and put hundreds of miles on it.

Good write up, I read it so many times about Triumph-STR, and yes, it's really tough to get for less price.
Anyway, I started researching to buy a car 8 months ago, which I will buy, probably end of this year or mid of next year. So, I started my research for my next bike now itself.
But after reading your last paragraph, and some posts in this forum, my bike is only 5600 miles, 2008. So, I feel lucky myself and force myself to be more responsible and respective towards my present ride. May be I might do perf. mods and keep this for a very long time, but good to know other's experience.

Everyone who knows me knows that I've been dreaming about a Ducati MTS. I'm glad I've waited this long, the 2015 seems to have been upgraded over the previous year's model and even may have a lower seat height and a narrower seat which is good for me, considering I'm only 5-9 at best.

If I could only have one bike I would get the new FJ-09. Still fun and sporty like the FZ6, even better for touring duty.

I love my Street Triple (non-R). Mine has the flyscreen installed, and wind protection is almost as good as my FZ6 was, but with less buffeting. My FZ-07 is a good all-around bike too, but it just doesn't tickle my fancy the way the Triumph does.

Definitely give a Triumph a test ride, I think you'll like it!

I did / am doing just that. I'm upgrading the suspension on the FZ6 to stretch its lifespan out just a bit longer. When I can take it no longer, I'll sell the shiny bits off the FZ6 and buy a Triumph.

I'm thinking this guy for my next bike.

Maybe sometime next year.

Alternatively, I really like the Street Triple R and the Tuono V4 R.

However, the STR costs as much used as the FZ09 costs new and has a higher seat height and less power. (Although the suspension is far superior).

The Tuono is my favorite bike, can be had used for about $9,000 with insurance that's cheaper than the STR or FZ09. It has more horsepower and better suspension than my other choices. However, there are some issues the bike suffers from Italian reliability and 23-25 MPG. I'm not sure that I can overlook these two items.

That Aprilia looks weird, the front of the fairing looks too low, the proportions are all wrong.

I suppose it helps to see the Tuono in person, but man is it a sexy bike. The mechanical bits are pornographic.

I never really liked the styling of the bike until one of my riding buddies got a RSV4. After that I started eyeing the Tuono at dealers and fell in love.

The proportions are actually very similar to the STR, the headlights and top of the windscreen are at about the same height in relation to the triples. The Tuono however has ram air intakes in between the headlights and radiator shrouds. This kind of makes the headlights and side plastics look like one piece. It's supposed to be a "naked" but Aprilia went a bit over board with the plastics.

I guess the longer you stare at the Tuono the more the plastics make sense. They're very purposeful. Unlike the fake intake scoops on the FZ09.

Or if I land a good job, my dream

Figure my FZ6 will last long enough to where there are more affordable electric bikes with better range, I've test ridden a Zero SR though and it was a hoot. Just pure wind noise but packed a punch.

HD has a nice option for electric bike, Liwewire.

This thread sounds interesting and weird at the same time.
Please put it under budget guys.

33000 USD, which I will never go in my life, unless I became a millionaire in next 3 years ;)

I just purchased a used 2012 BMW R1200R. It has the upright riding position of the FZ6, but with more leg room. The boxer engine is 110 HP and has more torque. I can run 55 MPH in 4th gear comfortably and highway speeds in 5th. It doesn't even feel like it needs a sixth gear, although it has one and lopes along happily at 80. Don't get me wrong, I loved my FZ6 and will miss the light bike and how easy it rolls into a turn. If I had room in the garage I would have kept it.

I am not at all ready for a cruiser and wanted something I could twist the throttle on, and also put some long days on. This fit the bill. For what you get, I think the used ones are a good value. Only time will tell if parts and maintenance costs make me change my mind on that. But for today.... this is it.

I rode the Super Tenere at Daytona Bike Week and really liked it. I had hoped to try the Kawasaki Versys 1000 as well. I liked the Tenere and considered buying one. I bought this like new BMW, fully loaded, for less than either of those bikes new.

Electric bikes are sick, but... I couldn't live with the range.
Yeah, that's why I'll be on my FZ6 for a while waiting. They need 200 mi range (highway) minimally and be around $10K or less for me to take serious interest. If I had the money though I'd just have a fleet of them so I could just swap out to charge one of them while riding another

Ewww the Livewire, almost symbolic of HD, is a underpowered, overpriced piece of garbage. They didn't even try, the specs are laughable for what was said to cost $50,000 to buy in Dec,2014... I really, really wanted to believe Harley actually took a chance on making a motorcycle worth buying, but alas yet another golden turd. :spank:.
What I'd do for a ~600cc motorcycle from America with good specs, belt driven and $10K or less, oh well.

Under budget, nothing really appeals to me over the FZ6 though, it's just too versatile and reliable a machine to ever look at anything else. The only thing I would enjoy is better fuel economy (which I'd always want so this is not really a stand out wish)

I would go for a Honda CBR650F, for the following reasons :

1- Sports bike for the plate of a touring ( in Quebec, racers cost 1200 a year for the plate vs most other bikes 650.)
2- Clip ons
3- 4 Cyl with about the same power as the FZ6

I find it looks good and it's affordable. I would go for a R6 if it wasn't that we got to pay a big premium for the plate.

ha ha and the guy who explained about this bike looked like a dunce, when he said, I have to stop do a complete stop and then switch from economy mode to sport mode in the event when a sportbike guy just overtook you.
I was like, did he hear himself(I couldn't find the like to the video).
Anyway, If I have the chance to go for Harley's, I would choose V-rod muscle.
But a 2008 used one is around 9k, so, I sticked to FZ6, few months ago while searching.(I know its a classic bike and FZ6 is a multi-purpose bike, but I'm into bikes, not a specific model, anyway).
