Hey guys, newb question here. I have been off of street bikes for about 12 years. Been riding dirtbikes. I want to get back into sportbikes, but don't want to spend too much just getting back my sport bike legs. A local shop has a 2006 FZ6 with 36000 miles for $2699. Is this a fair price? And what maintenance issues, etc should I expect with that many miles? Is it worth it, or should I look for one with fewer miles? Another local shop has an 07 FZ6 with only 6800 miles for $4499.

Thoughts???

If it was me I would get the 07. It has better brakes (4 pot calipers instead of 2). But really for the price if you don't plan on keeping the bike long the 06 wouldn't be bad. There is just the normal maintenance on these bikes. Just keep the oil changed and other basics and you should be good to go. The biggest thing I would ask is if the valve clearance has been checked.

2700 isnt too aweful bad, maybe even par given the bike is actually clean and in one piece... yamaha manual states valve adjustments should be done at 26k.. id make sure that has been done

i sold my PRISTINE 06.. bought new in 2008, with 13k miles for 3100 :(

picked up my 2006 with 2800 miles in mint cond. for $3200. 36k seems like a bunch (waaay too many) of miles for that price. See if you can get the dealer down to 2100 or pony up more cash for the 2007 which arguably should be selling closer to 4000.

Just for comparison, a couple of months ago I picked up a one owner, clean 2007 FZ6 with 13,500 miles for $3150, just needed a new front tire.
