The only thing you might need to be mindful of is that the tender leads are for a long slow current delivery for a battery recharge, the power leads for starting is heavier guage, yes? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but couldn't you actually melt the tender wiring by pulling the neccesary current to start the bike, or would it fire up so quick as to not really make heat generation an issue?

Correct on the additional current possibly damaging the tender wire attached to the battery. If it's a decent amperage fuse it may pass enough current to the starter. I don't know the actual cranking amps of the starter. If you wanted to jump the bike without drawing a lot of current through the tender wires and inline fuse, you could hook another battery and let it set for a while (15-20 minutes) hooked to the charged battery. What will happen is the low battery will take a charge from the charged battery. Then disconnect the helper battery and see if your bike battery will crank the bike and start.
If you leave the helper battery hooked up after the 15-20 minute time frame the current will still be reduced through the tender wire and inline fuse because some of the current draw will be from your battery.

If you have them, grab your safety glasses when ever working with batteries. Even though they are 12-13 volts they can produce a lot of dangerous current causing ignition of any exposed gases including internal battery gasses. :cool: :)

it's easier, plus bump starting pace will be similar to the engine idle speed, in 1st it would require the engine to turn over a lot quicker, in higher gears it would make it turn over too slowly

you also have to think in reverse for gearing. its hardest to turn the motor from the wheel in 1st and its easiest in 6th. which means that 2nd is easier more likely to crank over than first but still lack a high RPM requirement to maintain combustion. so in first if the bike isn't going fast enough, the engine is more likely to lock up and the wheels will follow suit leading to a dumped bike.

thats why 2nd is the best bet, unless it just wont crank and you have a way to get a lot of speed, then use 3rd.
