Just to add a different perspective on this subject.
1-I have found that the search function usually brings up hundreds of unrelated posts, that would take hours to sift through. but I do try to manage through it sometimes.
2-Some search results are months, even years old, surely new experiences, new technologie, new info is out there. Sometimes it's just healthy to rehash a subject.
3-If all questions were self-answered with the search function, this forum would die or just be a bunch of old ladys gossiping about nothing, while squashing repeat threads with those "Search Police" posts.
Of coarse I'm being a little sarcastic, but I have seen the "Search Funtion Police" mentality get too aggressive and all but kill a good, active forum.
Just my opinion,
