what is up with our forum members?

I've been trying to sell my T-Rex sliders ($15 shipped) a few weeks ago. After one member dicking me around for about 2 weeks, saying he agreed to buy and the check is in the mail, etc., another member is doing the exact same thing. What gives?

Why would anyone is this forum do this to me? I'm tempted to name names.

That's too bad. Most of us have had excellent experiences buying and selling.

If you think they're bending or violating the buying rules, definitely PM the moderator of that section. I think Cali_Rider is the moderator of the buying and selling forum.

+1 to above! This is by far the best forum that I have dealt with regarding communications, sale, knowledge, constructive feedback, etc...

I think our forum members are great.

Don't get down because out of over 11000 members, a couple of them have let you down.

Best way is not a thread like this, BUT, as said above, PM the moderator for the "for sale" section - Cali-Rider. Sometimes better to PM things like this.

Sorry if this post upset some people. My goal was not to bash this forum, but to let out my frustration. This forum has been great to me, very informative and supportive.

I am trying to sell this to another member. Hopefully a successful sale will help me restore my faith in this forum, at least in selling stuffs here.

This is actually funny to me. I can see someone pulling a scam selling something (steal the money and don't send the item), but to pose as a buyer and teasing someone who's tryiing to sell, saying the check is in the mail??

It's not like these people legitimately wanted to buy, but changed their mind. That would be okay with me. But to say that the check is in the mail....when it's not. That's what ticks me off.

ehh.. times are tough for people.. i have had to back out of a deal here one time and no problems.. just repost and if the orginal buyer has something to say, well the check was obviously not in the mail... supprised a little especially for good frame sliders at a very reasonable price.. good luck with the sale :thumbup:

I sell quite a few items on a non-motorcycle related forum (too many hobbies...) and despite the vast majority of buyers being very upfront with good communications, fast payment, etc, there are always a couple that will do the "cheque's in the mail" routine.
It's ALWAYS an inexpensive item too....that's what's baffling about it.
I will usually give a person paying by cheque 2 weeks to get the cheque to me (stuff happens...). After that, the item either goes to the next person in line who wanted it, or I simply repost the item for sale again.
I find "EMT" (electronic debit card transfer: chequing account to chequing account) to be the best, quickest and most secure method of payment, when either buying or selling.
In other words, if you're selling stuff on the internet, have patience.
Always bear in mind that it's a virtual yard sale, with all the same foibles.:thumbup:

This is why when selling online I usually only accept paypal, sometimes I will make exceptions and allow a certified postal money order. But then I always let the buyer know that I wait until it fully clears my bank before shipping the item out.

I notice that Paypal is very popular. How does that work btw? Do the seller have to pay a fee?

I once sold an item when I was on the ex-500 forum for $50. I was surprise when the buyer sent me $50 cash between a post card. Now that's trust. That's why I thought it would be easier to sell $15 item here.

yes you have to pay a very small fee if you use paypal.. look up their website for more info, but it is a very easy way to transfer money from one party to another.. i dont think you'll find to many people in this day in age that will send cash.. otherwise you can always sell stuff on ebay...

For standard user accounts, paypal charges a standard 3% fee. I usually included this in the price of items I am selling, depending on how much they are, or just eat the small cost for the convenience of getting payment instantly. Buyers are able to pay via Credit Card, Bank Account, eCheck, etc. And sellers are able to accept the payment easily and instantly usually. I've done thousands and thousands of dollars of transactions on Paypal, and it's just plain convenient.

As always, I only ship to confirmed addresses, and keep a receipt of my shipment including tracking number.

I actually tried something different this time. I sent the frame slider FIRST, then ask that money be sent. Today I receive $15 cash in the mail.

Third time is the charm I guess.
