Just got off the phone with AF1 Racing and the tuner said that the FZ is the CLEANEST & GREENEST FI bike he has ever tuned! The air coming out the exhaust is cleaner than the air going into the bike. WOW!

I pick the bike up tomorrow. The tuner is an expert class racer and has been doing this for years. He also tunes pro bikes in Europe. After the dyno tuning he rode the bike for about 65 miles; slab, twisties, stop and go.

Here's his comments:

Total gain in hp: 8+

Mid-range: 40% throttle now makes more hp than 100% throttle, very sharp and snappy response.

Off idle response: Smoooooth, no longer jerky.

Neutral throttle response, ie neutral in a sweep going into throttle roll on on exit of a corner: much more responsive, doesn't hesitate and jerk on, still not a carb bike but a million times better.

Overall the stock Yamaha map is WAAAY too rich. He leaned out almost every position in the fuel map. He had to program the O2 sensor to ignore the O2 inputs from 0% throttle to 20% throttle from 0 rpm to 7,000 rpm. Once he bypassed this, and created a custom map the bike became a totally different animal. It isn't an R6 but it ain't no FZ6 anymore!

He was very impressed with the results and this comes from a guy who ride an R1, Ducs and Aprillias.

I'll post the dyno sheets and the tuning map this weekend with ride impressions.

Oh, he said the stock PCIII maps are uber crap. Those maps typically richen the bike, which is the last thing the FZ needs.

Is he giving you the custom map on disk so that you can re-load it if you need to? Sounds like a job well done so far!!!

Yes, I'll get the map on my stick and post it somewhere on the Forum. Do we have a place to hang files?

Soooooo..... now you're trying to empty MY wallet again? :rof:

Very nice!!! Congrats on the "new bike" Top!!

It's all part of my evil, diabolical plan to have FZ6s rule the world! BRAHAAHAA! (Do your best Dr. Evil laugh here)

Man I can hardly wait to try it out!

So your only real "power" mod is your akro's and pcIII? I wonder how much different the akro's are compared to the scorpions...

And damnit, you're probably going to make me buy a power commander :Flip:. Also, hope you can put some miles on the bike to give us impressions as well as any changes in fuel economy. I would like to know since I lost some with the addition of my scorps.

I can't wait to see the graphs :Sport:

Nice!!!!!!! I thought Yamaha made it go leaner in midrange and richer at high revs. Now you got me considering a PCIII and a dyno session too... Maybe if I slip the bill among the householdbills the wife won't notice;)

Did you run it with the venturicone installed or not?

Cheers

it sounds great!
you still didnt tell us how much it cost you to get the custom map..

im getting it done in 2 weeks and hopefully hear similar comments from the shop who does it :D

Awsome deal Hellgate! Glad to here AF1 is taking care of you.

However, I have question. Where the heck is the 02 sensor? Are you talking about the sensor in the airbox? I have yet to find one on the exhaust!

The other thing... what program was he using to get inside the computer? Is there a serial port somewhere? It would be nice to get ahold of what ever program he is using. Here at school I have access to a small chassis dyno that I can use anytime.

The O2 sensor is just past the cat on 07 and ups. You'll see a wire that goes to spark plug looking thing.

The map is 100% custom. The bike is put on an eddy current dyno and they use the exhaust sniffer and a 4 gas EGA device (I have no idea what that is). The PC3 allows you to tune down to 100 rpm intervals at 0 to 100% throttle and 10 % increments. So it is not a typical WFO tuning session. This type is tune gives you the best of both worlds, WFO and everyday riding. Micha, the tuner rode the bike for two days to make sure everything was good to go in the real world. He was very impressed with the little fizzes, hated the forks however...

Yes the PC3 has a usb port to connect to your computer.

Jamboy gave me his custom map for his FZ with an Akro and I'm curious to compare the difference between tuners. I noticed that his map is much leaner too so I supect they will be similar.

I would think that regardless of exhaust brand this would work better than pretty much any map from Dyno Jet. All of their's appear to be fat, not lean.

12 more hours and I'll know!!!! :cheer:

Ok so on an 05 with no O2 Sensor the tuning style will be different. So you did tune with a PCIII? Did you get all the upgrades for it so you can tune fuel and spark as well?

I was under the impression that he was just tuning on your stock computer with some sort of program.

Sorry, yes PC3 (I realized I didn't mention that...Doah!) and the O2 sensor. One other forum member recently tuned with O2 only and got good results. The PC3 will allow you to fine tune that much more. I don't have the ignition module, I'll ask about that when I'm there in a couple of hours.

Also curious about MPG Top. Please let us know what you get out of the next few tanks with the much leaner map controlling the FI?

Awesome!!!

I didn't see what was the peak HP and torque, before and after. just out of curiousity what was the baseline run, what was the run after tuning?
