Just got off the phone with AF1 Racing and the tuner said that the FZ is the CLEANEST & GREENEST FI bike he has ever tuned! The air coming out the exhaust is cleaner than the air going into the bike. WOW!
I pick the bike up tomorrow. The tuner is an expert class racer and has been doing this for years. He also tunes pro bikes in Europe. After the dyno tuning he rode the bike for about 65 miles; slab, twisties, stop and go.
Here's his comments:
Total gain in hp: 8+
Mid-range: 40% throttle now makes more hp than 100% throttle, very sharp and snappy response.
Off idle response: Smoooooth, no longer jerky.
Neutral throttle response, ie neutral in a sweep going into throttle roll on on exit of a corner: much more responsive, doesn't hesitate and jerk on, still not a carb bike but a million times better.
Overall the stock Yamaha map is WAAAY too rich. He leaned out almost every position in the fuel map. He had to program the O2 sensor to ignore the O2 inputs from 0% throttle to 20% throttle from 0 rpm to 7,000 rpm. Once he bypassed this, and created a custom map the bike became a totally different animal. It isn't an R6 but it ain't no FZ6 anymore!
He was very impressed with the results and this comes from a guy who ride an R1, Ducs and Aprillias.
I'll post the dyno sheets and the tuning map this weekend with ride impressions.
Oh, he said the stock PCIII maps are uber crap. Those maps typically richen the bike, which is the last thing the FZ needs.
