So I decided to try the airbox mod out. I figure why not, So I bought a new top and cut that one. It does not come with the foam pieces. So my question is to I need them or is it fine without ??? thanks for the help.

Guessing it plays a role in resonant frequency to stop vibrations. It certainly doesn't come into contact w the tank.

I can't imagine much of any issues, but I suppose if it vibrates it could make fasteners come loose sooner - of be harder on the rubber hoses causing them to crack sooner. This is all just speculation as I seems to have no other purpose...

Keep in mind that the airbox is the way it is because engineers spent hours calculating how they could make it work with that specific engine.
I doubt hacking it will make it work better.

Anyway i'd be interested to know what your findings are...

Would anyone be able to tell the difference?

No, 1HP can be gained or lost just because of atmospheric conditions, or altitude, or by a slight weight gain!

The old school rule is 7lbs=1hp, since fuel weighs around 6.5lbs per gallon, just the difference between a full tank and one bar left is close to 4HP.
Can you really feel a noticeable difference between the two? now imagine 1HP?

If you can, your butt dyno is more precise than most actual dyno!
